****Important: If you are in crisis, do not book a session, please call 911/988 or go to your nearest emergency room. Online care is the lowest level of care and not appropriate for emergent/crisis referrals as the message board is not monitored 24/7 and we are not on call. I am a telehealth Provider licensed in 3 states with 25 years of experience and trained in a wide away of therapies. Please note that I do not provide sex therapy, therapy for those court-ordered, high acuity, Bipolar, Psychosis, Personality Disorders, substance abuse, Child Protective Services cases or any legal issues. and eating disorders. Note that I do not provide evaluations for Emotional support animals or FMLA or related. These need to be completed by your Doctor.
25 years of coaching and ready to assist you in collaboratively making a plan for change!
Other: *** Please note that there needs to be a certain level of English Profiency for this process to transpire. I cannot accommodate a translator in session. If it is determined that there is a language barrier, you would need to seek a counselor who speaks in your 1st language. As you can see online counseling has a few more rules than in person and we will review this in session too. I am a mandatory reported of child and elder abuse and neglect and if I ever got subpoenaed to court, I would need to give up medical records. If you are not motivated to change and are just looking to vent or someone to listen, I may not be the best fit as my style is more for those motivated to change and are seeking a life coach. Before we can start working together there are some forms that are required. If we were in person, I would just hand them to you, but online, we do not have that option.
First session
In the first session, we review my Professional Disclosure, Mandatory Reporting, HIPAA, online therapy orientation to ensure they understand how this differs from face to face and subsequent rules. We review risks and benefits of therapy, answer any logistical questions about online therapy. We discuss safety protocol and limits of confidentiality. In the second session, we review my methodology and complete the assessment, discovering the broad catchment areas that we will work on for a treatment/action plan of change and then in third sessions and after work to develop that treatment plan collaboratively.
Strengths
After our initial Consult/evaluation we will decide if it seems appropriate to continue. clients must be engaged in the therapy process in order to stay on my caseload. If more than 60 days passes with no appointment booked, this is a sign of lack of engagement, as per my ACA ethical handbook and licensing board. If this happens, I do discharge the client and the message board and email would no longer be available. At this point, you would need to start the process, (when you are ready) from the very beginning with myself or another therapist pending who is taking new clients assuming that this level of care is still appropriate for your clinical needs. Also note that if a client has more than three no shows or late cancellations in a 12 month period, I do discharge. Sessions are available on a first come first serve basis. If you wait, you will have less options. It is the responsibility of the client to book their own sessions. If time at the end of the session, I may, at my discretion offer to book a follow up for you. I have noticed that some clients are really hoping for 52/52 weeks of therapy per year, especially ones that have never been in therapy before. I like to remind clients that therapist do get sick, tech issues arise and we do take vacations too or go to conferences, so that is not feasible. I am on a few different platforms, so it is really best to schedule directly with me. Also note that forms are completed each year in therapy and assessment will be done again each year (annually) in therapy. (I will remind).Further note: The message board is not used for processing issues, only logistical issues.
Ideal clients
They are ready for change, and have low acuity, open to various interventions, willing to do homework and try new things. Will adhere to the guidelines and rules of Telehealth. They come from various backgrounds of culture and religion and open to being a "student" of therapy. They come with a sense of curiosity about themselves and the world around them.
Treatment methods
Integrative
I am trained in hundreds of different kinds of therapy. I use an integrative approach to meet clients where they are at and develop and indivudally tailored treatment/action plan of change.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I use this kind of therapy to assist the client with empowerment and non directive therapy in order to assist us in building good rapport-crucial for the therapeutic alliance which is also crucial in the process of counseling.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
I use this kind of therapy to assist the client with meditation and mindfulness techniques. I have trained with Buddhist monks in Thailand and have had extensive training in mindfulness.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use this with clients experiencing anxiety and depression. We learn techniques to better regulate our thoughts which dictate our mood, emotions, choices and behavior.
