To overcome a disability that occurred in 1999 and severely damaged my spinal cord, I began to build a stronger relationship with God. Although I was bound to a wheelchair, this relationship did not bind me to depression and anger and gave me what I needed to live through my daily struggles. In turn, I felt encouraged to gain medical and spiritual knowledge to help others achieve this same triumph. Through years of practice and sharing testimony, I have been able to touch many and be changed in the same way through each experience. I not only aim to help people put their pieces together, but look to be touched as well by their stories and refine my own pieces as well.

My life experiences helped me learn patience, how to adapt, endurance, faith, problem-solving skills, conflict resolution, leadership skills, overcoming obstacles, communication skills, and advocacy. I not only aim to help people put their pieces together, but look to be touched as well by their stories and refine my own pieces as well.

Faith-building exercises such as gratitude, encouragement, self-love, and confidence building are rooted in my practice for a happier and healthier you. The spiritual exercises that have helped me during my process were prayer, meditation, reading scriptures, and discussing my concerns with God-fearing counselors.

First session

During our first session, I will provide a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you can share your concerns and feel heard and understood. I will take time to get to know you, learn about your goals, and understand the challenges you are facing. Together, we will begin exploring your thoughts, feelings, and experiences to gain insight and discover new ways to approach life’s challenges. My goal is for you to leave our first session feeling supported, with a greater sense of hope and a clearer understanding of the steps you can take toward healing and positive change.

Strengths

My life experiences with my parents getting divorced when I was 7 years old, being raised in the church, Boys Scout, karate, playing junior high and high school football, gang activity, and selling drugs at 11 years old, disability, PhD, and my relationship with God help me relate to and help a variety of people from different walks of life. My life experiences helped me learn patience, how to adapt, endurance, faith, problem-solving skills, conflict resolution, leadership skills, overcoming obstacles, communication skills, advocacy, etc.

Ideal clients

My ideal clients are teens aged 16 and older and adults who are seeking hope, understanding, and a new perspective on life’s challenges. My mission is to increase hope within each client by providing insight and a different perspective. I offer a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients can explore their thoughts and feelings, recognize their strengths, and discover new ways to approach challenges. Through therapy, I help clients gain clarity, build confidence, develop healthy coping skills, and recognize that positive change is possible. My goal is to empower each client to move forward with greater hope, healing, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps you understand how your thoughts, feelings, and actions are connected. Together, we will work to recognize negative thought patterns and behaviors that may be making life more difficult. I will help you learn healthier ways to think, manage your emotions, and respond to challenges. My goal is to give you practical tools you can use in everyday life to feel better, make positive changes, and build healthier habits.

Faith-based therapy

Faith-based therapy combines counseling with your personal faith and spiritual beliefs. If faith is important to you, we can include prayer, scripture, and biblical teachings in our sessions to help you work through life’s challenges. Together, we will explore how your faith can help you manage stress, cope with difficult emotions, improve relationships, and find hope during hard times. My goal is to provide a safe and supportive space where you can grow emotionally and spiritually while learning healthy ways to handle life’s challenges. Your faith will be included in therapy based on your comfort level and personal beliefs.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness-based therapy helps you focus on the present moment instead of becoming overwhelmed by worries about the past or future. During our sessions, we will practice simple techniques such as deep breathing, paying attention to your thoughts and feelings, and learning to respond to stress in healthier ways. Together, we will work on helping you become more aware of your emotions without judging yourself. The goal is to help you feel calmer, manage stress, improve emotional control, and handle life’s challenges with greater peace and understanding. These skills can also be practiced at home and used in your everyday life.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational interviewing helps you explore your feelings about making changes in your life. Sometimes, you may want to make a change but feel unsure about where to start or how to move forward. During our sessions, we will talk about your goals, identify what may be holding you back, and explore what motivates you to make positive changes. My role is to listen, ask questions, and help you discover your own strengths and reasons for change without judging or pressuring you. The goal is to help you build confidence, overcome obstacles, and take small steps toward the changes you want to make in your life.

Solution-Focused Brief Treatment

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy helps you focus on finding ways to make things better. Instead of focusing only on what is going wrong, we will talk about what you want to change and how to reach your goals. Together, we will look at your strengths, what is already working in your life, and small steps you can take to move forward. My goal is to help you build confidence, find solutions, and make positive changes that improve your daily life.
