Hello, I'm Steve Geisler, LCSW, and founder of Courage Point Counseling & Wellness. With more than 25 years of experience, I help individuals, couples, adolescents, and families navigate challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, addiction, relationship difficulties, autism, and life transitions. My approach combines compassion, honesty, and practical tools to help clients heal, build resilience, strengthen relationships, and create meaningful, lasting change in their lives.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin understanding what brings you to therapy. We'll talk about your current concerns, relevant life experiences, relationships, strengths, and goals for treatment. There is no pressure to share everything at once—we move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. My goal is to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where you feel heard, understood, and respected. Together, we'll identify areas of focus, discuss possible treatment approaches, and begin developing a plan to help you move toward the changes and healing you're seeking.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I bring more than 25 years of professional experience, along with a genuine passion for helping people create meaningful change in their lives. Clients often describe me as compassionate, down-to-earth, honest, and easy to talk to. I balance empathy with practical guidance, helping clients not only gain insight into their challenges but also develop concrete skills they can use in everyday life. My approach stands out because I tailor therapy to each individual's unique needs rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all model. I integrate evidence-based approaches such as CBT, DBT, EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness, and Solution-Focused Therapy to create a treatment plan that fits the person sitting in front of me. Whether we're working through trauma, strengthening a relationship, overcoming addiction, managing anxiety, navigating autism, or processing grief, I focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship where clients feel safe, supported, challenged when appropriate, and empowered to move forward with confidence.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I am best positioned to work with individuals, couples, adolescents, and families who are ready to create meaningful change in their lives, even if they feel stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain about where to begin. Many of my clients are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, addiction, life transitions, autism, or struggles with self-esteem and emotional regulation. I also work extensively with individuals recovering from narcissistic or emotionally abusive relationships, helping them rebuild confidence, establish healthy boundaries, and reconnect with their sense of self. I work particularly well with women who have experienced abuse, betrayal, manipulation, or narcissistic relationships and are seeking healing, clarity, and empowerment. Together, we address the impact these experiences have had on self-worth, trust, relationships, and emotional well-being while developing practical tools for recovery and growth. My clients are often people who value honesty, accountability, and practical solutions. They may be looking to heal from painful experiences, strengthen relationships, improve communication, overcome unhealthy patterns, recover from addiction, process grief, or develop greater confidence and resilience. I also enjoy working with individuals and families affected by autism, helping them better understand themselves, improve relationships, and build effective coping strategies. Whether your goal is healing from the past, improving your current relationships, overcoming obstacles, or creating a more fulfilling future, I provide a supportive, compassionate, and collaborative environment where we can identify challenges, build practical skills, and create a clear path forward. My approach combines empathy with direct feedback, helping clients gain insight while developing tools they can confidently use in everyday life.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT is an evidence-based treatment approach that helps identify and change unhelpful thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors that contribute to emotional distress. Clients learn practical skills to challenge negative thinking patterns, improve coping strategies, regulate emotions, and develop healthier responses to life's challenges.

Couples Counseling

Gottman Method Couples Therapy: The Gottman Method is a research-based approach to couples counseling that helps partners improve communication, manage conflict, strengthen friendship, rebuild trust, and increase emotional connection. Couples learn practical skills to create healthier relationship patterns and develop a stronger, more satisfying partnership.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): DBT is an evidence-based treatment that helps clients develop skills for managing intense emotions, improving relationships, tolerating distress, and increasing mindfulness. Clients learn practical strategies to reduce emotional reactivity, make healthier decisions, and create greater balance and stability in their lives.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): EMDR helps individuals process traumatic experiences and distressing memories that may contribute to current emotional difficulties. Using guided bilateral stimulation, clients can reduce emotional distress, strengthen adaptive beliefs, and improve coping and emotional well-being.

Trauma-Focused CBT

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT): TF-CBT is an evidence-based treatment designed to help individuals process traumatic experiences, reduce trauma-related symptoms, and develop healthy coping skills. Clients learn to understand the impact of trauma, challenge unhelpful beliefs, manage emotional distress, and improve overall functioning and resilience.
