Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

During the first therapy session, I will ask questions and provide support, insight, and encouragement to help clients identify the various problems they are experiencing. I provide a non-judgmental, empathetic, collaborative space that promotes healing and personal and professional growth. During each session, I gather information to help me diagnose, assess, and treat any identified mental health conditions. I draw from evidence-based practices while tailoring each session to your specific goals and experiences. Whether we are working on improving communication in a relationship, managing anxiety, or rebuilding a sense of self, our work will be focused, intentional, and aligned with what matters most to you. At the end of the session, you will have an idea of some tasks or behaviors to work on prior to and during the next session.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I am highly skilled at helping a variety of people set personal and professional plans and goals. I use a variety of methods to help increase your insight, boost your confidence, elevate your mood, or improve your personal and professional relationships. I am goal-directed, solution-focused, and provide kind and direct assessments and suggestions for you to consider. I help my clients focus on alleviating what ails them most so that they can better enjoy life. I believe therapy should feel both supportive and productive. You can expect a balance of validation and forward movement, insight and action. My role is to help you better understand yourself, strengthen your resilience, and create lasting, meaningful change. Clients who have multiple sessions with me often thank me for helping them change and become better at coping with their problems.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I am best positioned to serve clients who are seeking to engage actively in identifying and discussing the thoughts and behaviors that are troubling them and negatively impacting their lives and relationships. I enjoy helping clients experience "aha moments" wherein they decide to make some changes in the ways that they behave and think about certain aspects of their lives. In our work together, I prioritize creating a calm, supportive environment where you can speak openly without judgment. I am direct when needed, while also being compassionate and attuned. Clients often find that this balance helps them feel both supported and challenged in a productive way. For couples, I focus on improving communication, rebuilding trust, and helping partners move from patterns of distance or conflict toward greater emotional connection. For individuals, I support developing self-awareness, strengthening confidence, and creating a clearer sense of direction. My goal is to help you not only feel better, but to function more effectively in your relationships and daily life. Therapy is an investment in yourself, and I aim to make that process meaningful, focused, and empowering.

My treatment methods

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a short-term goal-focused evidence-based therapeutic approach incorporating positive psychology principles and practices. It helps clients change by constructing solutions rather than focusing on problems. In the most basic sense, SFBT is a hope-friendly, positive emotion-eliciting, future-oriented vehicle for formulating, motivating, achieving, and sustaining desired behavioral change.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT rests on the assumption that the way people think and interpret life events affects how they behave and feel. Therapy sessions focus on exploring and developing methods to deal with challenges and behaviors that arise daily. This type of therapy can be effective in treating depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and other mental health conditions. CBT often consists of 6–20 one-on-one sessions, though some people may have more. It can also take the form of group sessions.

Motivational Interviewing

MI is a collaborative, goal-oriented style of communication with particular attention to the language of change. It is designed to strengthen personal motivation for and commitment to a specific goal by eliciting and exploring the person’s own reasons for change within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion.

Dr Owens made me think about my issues, problems and solutions and made me realize things which is what I needed and was looking for. She’s not a therapist that just sits there while you vent. She gave me problem solving solutions to focus on. Thanks
