About me

I’m Josh Whatcott, LCSW, a retired police sergeant and therapist specializing in trauma, anxiety, depression, burnout, relationships, and life stress. At Gold Badge Health & Wellness, I provide practical, straightforward, compassionate therapy where clients can feel understood without judgment, develop useful tools, build resilience, and create meaningful, lasting change. I'm excited to help you on your journey of healing.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Your first session is about getting to know you, understanding what brought you to therapy, and identifying what you would like to change. There is no pressure to have everything figured out or share more than you’re comfortable with. We’ll talk about what’s working, what isn’t, and begin developing a practical plan tailored to your goals. My priority is creating a comfortable, judgment-free space where you feel heard, understood, and leave with a clear direction for moving forward.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I bring a genuine, straightforward, and practical approach to therapy. My background in law enforcement and mental health gives me a unique understanding of trauma, stress, relationships, and life’s challenges. I create a space where you can be yourself, feel understood without judgment, and leave with tools you can actually use.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My ideal client is someone who may feel overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected, or simply ready for something in their life to change. You may be navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, relationship challenges, or major life transitions. I work especially well with first responders and individuals who appreciate a straightforward, practical approach to therapy. You don’t need to have everything figured out before starting. Together, we’ll identify what matters, develop useful tools, and work toward meaningful change.

My treatment methods

Trauma Informed Care

I use trauma-informed care to create a safe, respectful environment where you remain in control of the therapeutic process. We explore how difficult or traumatic experiences may still be affecting your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and body today. Depending on your needs, I may incorporate approaches such as Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), CBT, DBT-informed skills, exposure-based interventions, mindfulness, and Mind-Body Bridging. We focus on building practical skills for emotional regulation and, when you’re ready, processing difficult experiences at a pace that feels manageable. My goal is to help you move forward without feeling defined by what you’ve been through.
