Hello, My name is Paul Bailey and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Arkansas, Texas and Connecticut. I graduated from Henderson State University with a Bachelors in Psychology and a Masters in Mental Health Counseling. I have been a licensed therapist for 12 years which I have worked in outpatient and inpatient settings. I have experience working with the following issues: anxiety, anger, depression, bipolar, psychosis, family issues, and behavioral issues. My two main approaches to treating clients are cognitive behavioral therapy and solution focused therapy. When I treat clients, we work together as a team to develop treatment goals and problem solving skills to develop solutions to their problems. My #1 goal as a therapist is to help clients meet their personal goals and improve their quality of life. Reaching out to others can be very difficult, but it can also be very rewarding. We all face problems; we just need the proper support and tools to help us overcome these problems.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
Getting to Know You Your first session is all about understanding who you are, what brought you to therapy, and what you hope to achieve. I will begin by asking about your background, current concerns, personal history, and any challenges you may be facing. This session helps lay the foundation for our therapeutic relationship, so honesty and openness are encouraged. There is no pressure to say the “right” thing. This is your space to share at your own pace—whether that means opening up right away or taking your time. I will guide the conversation with thoughtful questions and provide a supportive, nonjudgmental environment. ⸻ Discussing Your Goals During our first meeting, we will explore what you hope to gain from therapy. You may be seeking strategies to manage anxiety, improve communication, cope with stress, work through anger, or address family or relationship concerns. You may also be unsure where to begin—and that is completely okay. Together, we will clarify your goals and begin developing a plan tailored to your needs. I use a collaborative, team-based approach, meaning your voice and perspective are central to the process. We will work together to create a personalized path toward growth and progress. ⸻ My Approach to Therapy I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), which are both practical, structured, and goal-oriented approaches. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): We will explore how your thoughts influence your emotions and behaviors. You will learn to identify unhelpful thought patterns and replace them with healthier, more balanced ways of thinking. Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT): This approach focuses on solutions rather than problems. We will build on your strengths, identify what is already working, and develop practical steps to help you move forward. These approaches are effective for concerns such as anxiety, anger, depression, behavioral challenges, and relationship difficulties. ⸻ Working with Couples For couples, the first session focuses on understanding the relationship dynamic, identifying areas of concern, and establishing shared goals. Each partner will have the opportunity to express their perspective in a safe and structured environment. We will work on improving communication, increasing understanding, and developing healthier ways to manage conflict. I help couples learn how to listen effectively, express needs respectfully, and rebuild trust when needed. The goal is not to take sides, but to support both individuals while strengthening the relationship as a whole. ⸻ What Happens in the Session Introduction and Welcome: We will begin with introductions and review important information such as confidentiality, expectations, and the structure of therapy. You will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. Exploration of Concerns: I will invite you (or both partners, in couples therapy) to share what brings you to therapy. This may include specific challenges, recent stressors, patterns you have noticed, or goals you would like to work toward. Initial Goal Setting: We will begin identifying areas of focus and discuss what progress might look like for you moving forward. ⸻ Moving Forward By the end of the session, you will have a clearer understanding of how therapy works, what to expect in future sessions, and the direction we will take together. My goal is for you to leave feeling heard, supported, and confident in the next steps.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
My Greatest Strength as a Provider As a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 12 years of experience, my greatest strength lies in my ability to create a collaborative and client-centered therapeutic environment that empowers individuals to achieve their personal goals and improve their quality of life. This strength is deeply rooted in my professional expertise, evidence-based approaches, and unwavering commitment to supporting clients through their unique challenges. A Foundation Built on Experience and Expertise My journey as a therapist began with a solid academic foundation, earning a Bachelor’s in Psychology and a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Henderson State University. Over the years, I have honed my skills in both outpatient and inpatient settings, working with clients facing a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, anger, depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, family conflicts, and behavioral issues. These experiences have equipped me with the knowledge and adaptability to address diverse client needs effectively. Evidence-Based Approaches: A Key Strength The cornerstone of my therapeutic practice is the integration of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and solution-focused therapy (SFT). These evidence-based approaches allow me to address the root causes of a client’s struggles while fostering resilience and equipping them with practical tools for daily life. CBT helps clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns, replacing them with healthier, more constructive ways of thinking. It empowers clients to understand how their thoughts influence their emotions and behaviors, enabling meaningful and lasting change. On the other hand, SFT emphasizes a forward-focused mindset, guiding clients to envision their desired future and identify actionable steps to get there. By combining these approaches, I help clients develop problem-solving skills, build self-confidence, and cultivate a sense of hope. A Collaborative and Personalized Approach What truly sets me apart as a provider is my emphasis on collaboration and teamwork in the therapeutic process. I view the client-therapist relationship as a partnership, where clients are active participants in their journey toward healing and growth. Together, we establish clear, achievable treatment goals that reflect their personal aspirations and values. By fostering open communication and trust, I ensure that clients feel heard, understood, and supported throughout their

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. In sessions, I work with clients to recognize negative or distorted thinking patterns and replace them with more realistic and balanced thoughts. I incorporate structured techniques such as cognitive restructuring, coping skills training, and behavioral interventions to support change. I also assign practical exercises and homework to help clients apply these skills in real-life situations, promoting long-term emotional regulation and problem-solving.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
I use Solution Focused Brief Treatment (SFBT) to help clients focus on their strengths, resources, and achievable goals rather than remaining centered on problems. I guide clients in identifying what is already working in their lives and build on those successes to create meaningful change. Through goal-setting, scaling questions, and future-focused conversations, I support clients in developing practical solutions and increasing confidence in their ability to overcome challenges. This approach allows clients to experience progress in a structured, efficient, and empowering way.

I've only had one session thus far, but I'm very pleased with our time. He listened to my current problems and we identified some key issues that we can work on in future sessions. I asked him for some concrete tools that I can use going forward and he was happy to provide homework and worksheets, and in future sessions we talked about setting goals to work towards. It's still a new therapist/client relationship but I'm very hopeful that we'll work well together.
