Jen Banks
I'm Jen, a fifth-generation Wyoming counselor with nearly 20 years in the field. I work by telehealth with adults, older adults, and military families across CO, WY, and VA. My style is warm and person-centered.
I also integrate nervous system regulation and movement-based strategies when appropriate, so therapy isn’t just cognitive, it’s embodied.
You are the expert on your life, and I'm here to walk with you as you find your way.
First session
Mostly you talk. I will ask what brought you in, what you have already tried, and what is going on at home and at work. It will not feel like filling out a form. At the end I tell you what I think about fit. If I am not the right one, I say so and give you a referral same day.
Strengths
Nearly two decades of experience in schools, community mental health, and private practice. I bring warmth, honesty, and curiosity about you. I follow your lead, not a script, and I'm steady enough to stay with the hard stuff, whether it's grief, aging, family strain, or change.
Ideal clients
You are an adult who wants to understand yourself, not just fix a symptom. Maybe you are facing a loss, a big change, aging, or strain at home. You are ready to talk, reflect, and do the work at your own pace. You are not in crisis, and you can meet by video. You want a real person, not a script.
Treatment methods
Strength-Based
I start with what's already working. Everyone comes in with more resources than they realize, and part of my job is helping people see and build on what they already have rather than focusing only on what's broken.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
This is the foundation of everything I do. I believe the relationship between therapist and client is what creates change, not techniques or homework assignments. I follow your lead, trust your process, and offer unconditional positive regard. You're the expert on your own life.
Motivational Interviewing
I use MI to help clients explore ambivalence and find their own reasons for change. I'm not here to convince you of anything. I'm here to help you get clear on what you actually want and what might be getting in the way.
Psychodynamic
I pay attention to the patterns that repeat, in relationships and reactions, and we get curious together about where they started and what they were protecting. I don't hand you an interpretation. I follow what surfaces and we make sense of it at a pace that works for you.
Attachment-based
How we were cared for early on shapes how we reach for people now. We look at what you expect from closeness, what makes you pull back, and where those expectations came from. The work itself is a relationship, so a lot of it happens between us.
