My name is Jim Neumann and i am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker practicing for more that twenty five years. My work experience covers many different cultures and client backgrounds. I am very client oriented and focus my efforts on client goals and ideas of what they think is important during the therapy process. My approach as a therapist is non directive and I believe that therapy is a cooperative effort between the client and therapist to fulfill the needs of the client that originally brought them to pursue therapy.

First session

The client should be able to feel assured that the therapeutic process is beneficial and that they are on their way to obtaining new ways of thinking and seeing life in a positive way. In addition they should feel as though they have gained a new sense of rapport, trust and confidence that was built between the client and therapist during the first session. Goals are created through a mutual collaboration between the therapist and client that will provide a basis for beneficial solutions to the clients concerns.

Strengths

I have been very blessed regarding my which I have experienced over an substantial period of time. Some of them were beneficial and some of them had a negative as aspect to them. Over time I learned that not all experiences are positive in nature but still have value when the are perceived as something that can be learned if the issue comes to the surface again

Ideal clients

A highly motivated client is certainly beneficial to the therapeutic process. However this is not always the case. Clients who have been abused or made to feel unwanted or during their lifetimes may have have comorbidities such as depression and/or anxiety or even a severe mental illness. An ideal client would have the necessary cognitive or in some cases physical abilities to be able to engage with the therapist on a level that enhances a therapeutic process and is beneficial to the client.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT can be very be very beneficial to those clients are open to a structured type of therapy. It is basically used to change thought patterns and processing in the brain and to increase emotional regulation that is often disturbed by environmental or sensual triggers. This often is done through education of what causes rational and logical ways to solve communication problems between partners, skill building to deescalate emotions and mediate conflict.

Trauma-Focused CBT

Trauma focused CBT is generally utilized with clients who have been traumatized by the environment or human activity such as child abuse, rape of combat. Very often the effects of trauma in a person's life can be long lasting and can involve such things as depression anxiety , ADHD, substance use or a blend of general dysfunction in a person's life. It is important that the therapist has a deep understanding on how to develop a strong base of trust in the therapeutic relationship and the building of skills so the client is able to function on a daily basis and have skills to regulate their emotions and feelings.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness is an effective treatment for a number of mental health health conditions. It focuses on present moment awareness and emotional regulation. When there is emotional dysfunction in a person's life their daily functioning can be directly affected by negative consequences from chaotic interpersonal relationships and behavioral problems. Mindfulness can be used for a wide scope of mental health conditions including anxiety, depression, ADHD and PTSD.
