About

Hello, my name is Bryan Llorente, I am a licensed clinical social worker and have experience working in several clinical and therapeutic settings. I started my career at Advent Health Hospice Care, one of the largest non-profit hospital systems in the country.

I believe my greatest strength is my natural curiosity for understanding others and my ability to adequetely articulate complex ideas and concepts in ways that are digestible and relatable.

Through this position I gained experience in providing therapeutic counseling services to individuals and families who are going through major transitional period in their lives (receiving a terminal illness, death of loved one, living adjustments etc.) As a result I am well experienced in dealing with depression, anxiety, situational stress, loss of a loved one, grief, and am understanding of how medical issues can affect a person’s mental health. I have also worked for Orlando Health at the Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies covering the ED/Triage, antepartum and postpartum units of the hospital. This position gave me experience with providing crisis interventions and psychotherapeutic counseling to patient's who have a history of severe mental health issues, or who are actively experiencing medical emergencies, traumatic events, domestic violence, manic/depressive episodes, psychotic episodes, and suicidal ideations. In addition, I provided education on post partum depression and child care. In 2021 I began teaching classes as an Adjunct Professor for the University of Central Florida's College of Health Professions and Sciences. I have also worked for the National Suicide Prevention Line where I learned how to deal with a variety of mental health and emotional crisis situations over the phone. I feel well equipped to help my clients deal with a variety of issues, whether in person, or online. I take an objective and collaborative approach to understanding problems, and work with clients to create strategies to address problems head on so that clients learn the skills necessary to achieve their goals.

First session

During the first few minutes of the session, I would like to get to know you and the reasons for your decision to seek counseling services. If I identify some ways that I can help you achieve your goals, and you are resonating with how I present information and find my counsel helpful, then we will discuss a treatment plan and consents for treatment. If I am not able to assist due to my own lack of knowledge, or experience, I may consult with a supervisor to ensure that you are receiving an adequate level of care, or may refer you to another provider who may be able to better assist you. I can also provide general supportive counseling, if you would just like to engage in routine therapeutic counseling for continued support and cathartic relief. I take an objective, non-judgmental approach to counseling and find it important to identify the client's current coping mechanism, and if necessary, work with clients to develop more adaptive methods of coping. I may also suggest coping strategies such as journaling, meditation, or recommending other outlets for complex emotional expressions. Developing functional outlets for emotional regulation is another big part of how I practice. Everyone feels intense and complex emotions throughout their lives, but not everyone has developed the ability to express them through physicality, artistry, or has developed the social skills necessary to adequately articulate them. Throughout our sessions, I will help you identify and develop those abilities and skills, and will do my best to help you achieve your personal goals.

Strengths

I believe my greatest strength is my natural curiosity for understanding others and my ability to adequetely articulate complex ideas and concepts in ways that are digestible and relatable. I am also very cooperative with my clients and genuinely care about the outcomes of our conversations. These skills and insights have proven to be effective in the field and have given me the confidence to start Valor Therapeutic Services: an online mental health therapy and education provider that serves clients throughout the states of Florida and California.

Ideal clients

I have experience working with clients struggling with depression, grief, anxiety, panic attacks, PTSD, post partum depression, physical and sexual trauma, adjustment disorder, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, multiple personality disorder, chronic homelessness, domestic violence, psychosis, major life transitions, and suicidal ideations. I engage my clients in philosophical discussions and will provide character dilemmas to elicit reinforcement, or reevaluation of values and character.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize CBT concepts on a daily basis in the hospital and in private practice to help patients and clients develop more adaptive perspectives for their situations. In order to change your reality, you must be willing to change your mentality. This can be achieved through collaboration and identifying the most adaptive perspective for the given situation or circumstance. I regularly help clients identify these perspective and help incorporate them into my clients/ patients' lives. (I am not currently Certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)

Narrative

Narrative therapy is very useful therapeutic modality that helps clients who have difficulty separating the emotional connection to their own story. I utilize Narrative Therapy to help clients look at their life or situation with objectivity. (I am not currently Certified in Narrative Therapy)

Psychoeducation

I am always providing psychoeducation to my patients/ clients because it is one of the most effective forms of preparation for coping with emotional distress and understanding human behavior. It also helps normalize mental health issues and can help makes client's not feel so alone in coping with their situation

Psychoanalytic

I utilize psychoanalytic theory to help clients understand the origins of their behaviors, or impulses. Understanding why we do things can help us understand the need to make adjustments and stop engaging in harmful, or maladaptive behaviors.

I love how it is open, listens, understands, does not judge, and gives direct advice. I couldn't ask for a better therapist.
