I am a LCPC, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Certified EMDR Therapist, and Board-certified art therapist. I take a holistic approach in helping each client heal from trauma, face transitions and challenges, build self-esteem, and learn to love themselves and their lives. Through my work with trauma, I understand how childhood experiences can impact everything from our relationships as adults, our self-esteem, anxiety, parenting, etc. Frequently, it isn't until adulthood that we begin to look at our lives and discover how our childhood influences our choices, relationships, personality, emotions, addictions etc. By healing past trauma, we can find freedom, understanding and compassion for ourselves. In addition to EMDR, I use elements of polyvgal theory, mindfulness, IFS techniques, and body-based bottom up approaches based on the work of current neuroscience. I take a strength-based positive approach, helping clients discover their true and authentic selves.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Following introductions, I like to do a brief screening and identify your areas of concern, strengths and support network. We will discuss your goals and what you'd like to accomplish in therapy. I will explain my approach and answer any questions you may have. After that, I will put together a treatment plan that highlights your goals and objectives. As my client, you are in charge of your therapy. You know what is best for you and we can make modifications throughout therapy as progress and challenges arise.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I believe that my ability to be truly present and listen to my clients is one of my strengths. I am able to offer unconditional acceptance and understanding no matter what someone is going through. In addition, my life experience is broad and allows me to connect with individuals in a variety of circumstances.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My clients recognize that life is a journey and they are interested in growth and healing. They are self-reflective and want to let go of pain they have experienced in order to feel joyful and at peace. My clients may have struggled with relationships in the past or had parents who did not offer the support and nurturing they needed. My clients may feel that they don't know who they are or feel that they lack direction or meaning in their lives. They may desire change but feel stuck. Some clients may have experienced a divorce or loss of a relationship and are rebuilding their lives. Some clients may have experienced abuse or trauma as a child and recognize it is impacting their current relationships.

My treatment methods

EMDR

EMDR (Eye-movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence based approach using bi-lateral stimulation to reduce and alleviate symptoms of trauma. This approach can be used for those adults who experienced traumatic childhood experiences, as well as trauma as adults. This approach, which utilizes eye-movements or hand-held devices, can be used for children as well as adults, and can help process events so that they no longer impact our day to day lives. I have used this treatment for the past year with a variety of clients.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

A Person-centered approach recognizes the client as the expert in their own lives. Through my unconditional positive regard, empathy, active listening and encouragement, clients discover answers to their questions and the ability to make changes in their lives.

Transpersonal

A transpersonal approach is holistic and recognizes the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of the client. Transpersonal interventions may include mindfulness practices, meditation, guided imagery, sand-tray, nature, and art.

I have learned more in the couple of sessions I have held with Rachelle than the 20 plus years of CBT.
