Michelle L. King
I’m Michelle L. King, LCSW, and I help adults who feel anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in survival mode finally feel safe, steady, and confident again. I use CBT, Schema Therapy, DBT-informed skills, Mindfulness-Based approaches, and trauma-focused work to support emotional healing and nervous-system regulation.
Clients feel deeply understood while also learning skills that create real change — emotional regulation, boundaries, self-worth, and nervous-system stability.
My goal is to help you feel calm, capable, and fully in control of your life again.
First session
“Your first session is calm and structured — never a forced trauma dump. We’ll explore what’s bringing you to therapy, what relief would look like for you right now, and what your nervous system has been protecting you from. You’ll leave with clarity and a practical skill you can begin using immediately.”
Strengths
“I combine warmth with direct, active guidance. Clients feel deeply understood while also learning skills that create real change — emotional regulation, boundaries, self-worth, and nervous-system stability. I help people shift from surviving to genuinely living with confidence and internal safety.”
Ideal clients
“I work best with adults who look ‘put together’ on the outside but feel anxious, overwhelmed, or exhausted on the inside. Many are caretakers, achievers, or people-pleasers who are ready to stop abandoning themselves and start feeling calm, capable, and in control of their lives again.”
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT helps clients understand how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors interact. I use CBT to identify unhelpful thinking patterns and replace them with more accurate, compassionate internal dialogue. Clients learn practical skills that reduce anxiety and self-criticism and increase clarity, confidence, and emotional control.
Trauma Informed Care
Trauma-Focused work helps clients safely process and release experiences the nervous system has been protecting them from — without forcing a trauma dump or reliving pain before there is enough stability. We move at a pace that feels safe while strengthening internal safety, identity, and empowerment.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
DBT-informed skills teach emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and effective communication — especially for clients who feel overwhelmed by their emotions or responsible for everyone else’s. These tools support assertiveness, boundaries, and self-respect while reducing shutdown, fawning, or panic responses.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Mindfulness-Based work helps clients calm their nervous system, reduce overwhelm, and reconnect with the present moment. Together we build awareness of emotional and physical cues so you can respond to stress rather than react from survival mode. This leads to more peace, regulation, and self-trust in daily life.
Schema Therapy
Schema Therapy supports deep healing around long-standing patterns such as people-pleasing, perfectionism, emotional neglect wounds, and fears of abandonment or failure. We identify where these patterns began and learn new ways of relating to self and others. The goal is to build self-worth, secure boundaries, and a stronger internal sense of safety.
