Hey there friend, I’m Dr. Ryan Terao. I am a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in supporting those doing their best to navigate this experience we call life. I partner with my clients to discover, observe, and reconnect them with their values and find more effective ways to achieve their goals. In each session, I aim to provide my clients with new perspectives and tangible skills to adjust their mindsets to help them be more intentional in living out their values in their life. *Unfortunately I am not currently taking insurance for coupes therapy and am only accepting cash payments for couples therapy*

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Our first consultation call will take around 30 minutes where we will briefly get to know each other, understand what you want to get out of therapy, and what you would like to work on together. We will discuss goals for our work together, outline a general approach to achieve your goals, and answer any questions you might have about the timeline of treatment. Our official relationship begins after we both sign therapy agreements and complete our intake session. After the intake session we will feel meet for 3 introductory sessions to evaluate our fit as therapist and client, health of our therapeutic relationship, and solidify your goals for therapy. We will then have 7 more sessions and revaluate your progress at 10 sessions to review your progress in therapy, provide recommendations, and consider next steps to continue your growth. *Unfortunately I am not currently taking insurance for coupes therapy and am only accepting cash payments for couples therapy*

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

As a therapist it's always fun hearing my clients say, "I never thought of it that way before". My strength as a therapist is my ability to observe my clients through the different relationships they maintain and how it affects their thoughts, actions, and emotions. Through my casual and relatable style I aim to help my clients see themselves and situations in a more realistic and healthy way. As a couple's therapist I work to help my clients increase their communication skills to better convey their core values to each other and how to meet each other's needs. I work to create a space where each person can share their perspective without interruption to allow each person to better understand each other's point of view. My goal when working with my couples is to help them see each other's intentions of their statements, actions, and behaviors and work with them to learn skills to repair some of the hurt and distrust that may have occurred between them. *Unfortunately I am not currently taking insurance for coupes therapy and am only accepting cash payments for couples therapy*

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I enjoy working with young adults and developing professionals to develop more insight into themselves, what gets in their way, and how they can be more active in creating who they want to become. Increasing my client's sense of awareness allows them to check their impulses and practice guiding their attention on what they want to focus on. Let's face it there's a lot going on and it makes sense why people experience anxiety. To support my client's resiliency I objectively observe their behaviors, the functions behind them, and create more effective systems to activate their goals. Often just underneath our avoidant and self handicapping behaviors lies our true wants and intentions. Yet our fears somehow keep us from doing something differently, even if it's to look and acknowledge. Learning how to manage anxiety means understanding your relationship with it, how it's trying to keep you safe, and how to see it in a different light. Our experience of anxiety and depression may never truly "go away". But our ability to manage and allow it to affect us is something we can work on! *Unfortunately I am not currently taking insurance for coupes therapy and am only taking cash payments for couples therapy*

Ryan sets a high standard for therapeutic care. His guidance has helped me reimagine both my life and my sense of self in ways I couldn't have achieved alone. From the start, he has created a space where I feel heard, supported, and valued. Each session allows room for both laughter and vulnerability. Beyond that, he has also directed me with resources related to academics, diagnosis, and financials.
