Melixa Carbonell
I'm Melixa Carbonell, a licensed therapist and the founder of A Different Lens Counseling. I hold licenses in Florida (LMHC) and Colorado (LPC), and I'm a National Certified Counselor and an ADHD-Certified Clinical Services Provider. I see adults by video for ADHD and anxiety, and much of my work is with women and healthcare professionals.
I then provide life tools, education, and promote enhancing qualities that bring meaning and value into my clients’ lives.
I also have ADHD and work in healthcare myself, so I bring both training and firsthand understanding. My practice is LGBTQIA+ affirming and open to everyone.
First session
I provide a space where people feel free to explore ways to live the life they want to live. A space to look at life from different perspectives, looking at your needs, situation, or concerns through a different lens. The first session is a conversation, not a test. I'll ask what brought you in, what a typical week looks like, and what you've already tried, including what didn't work. You can share as much or as little as feels comfortable. I'll explain how I work and answer any questions you have about therapy or about ADHD and anxiety. Before we finish, we'll name one or two things you most want to change, so you leave knowing where we're headed. For many people, the biggest relief is simply describing their experience to someone who understands it.
Strengths
I combine specialized ADHD training with lived experience, so you don't have to explain or justify what your days are like. I'm warm and straightforward: I'll tell you what I see, and I'll explain the "why" behind it in plain language. I focus on what's realistic for your actual life, not an ideal version of it. I pay attention to the pressures around you, like work and family expectations, and not only to what's happening inside you. Clients can expect practical ideas to try between sessions, and no judgment about what hasn't worked before.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is an adult who looks like they have it all handled and is quietly exhausted by what that takes. You may be a woman who has been treated for anxiety for years and is beginning to suspect ADHD is underneath it. You may be a nurse or other healthcare worker who performs well on shift and has nothing left afterward. You're tired of being told to try harder, and you want to understand why your focus, energy, and follow-through change so much from one day to the next. You're ready to be curious about your patterns instead of blaming yourself for them.
