About me

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 30 years clinical experience working with children, families and adults across a variety of settings including outpatient mental health, school based, crisis intervention, inpatient psychiatric facilities, large non-profit, and private practice. My goal is to assist my clients to feel comfortable in reducing their symptoms and helping them to be their optimal selves. For example, I focus on issues such as emotional regulation, relationship struggles, and coping with change. I use evidence-based approaches to support clients in creating lasting growth and positive change.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session, the focus is on creating safety and trust. I’ll go at your pace — you don’t need to share your full story right away unless you want to. I’ll explain confidentiality, how sessions work, and answer any questions. You’ll have space to talk about what feels most important right now. Together, we’ll identify small, manageable goals and begin building a foundation for healing.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My greatest strengths as a provider is building rapport and connection with my clients, and being able to clearly understand the reason for services. What sets my approach apart is that I focus on your strengths just as much as your struggles. I believe you already have many of the tools you need within you, and my role is to help you uncover and use them. Sessions are collaborative, practical, and centered around your goals, so you leave with strategies you can apply in everyday life

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I enjoy working with adults, focusing on improving their overall mental health. I admire working with clients who are looking to deal with life stressors and finding new ways to engage in life and to find what works for them.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have practiced CBT for the last 30 years with children, families and adults. CBT is a talking therapy that aims to help people manage their problems by changing the way they think and behave. CBT is proven to be effective for a wide variety of mental health disorders such as depression and anxiety.

Trauma-Focused CBT

I am certified in Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) since 2015. TF-CBT addresses the mental health needs of children, adolescents, and families suffering from the destructive effects of early trauma. The treatment is particularly sensitive to the unique problems of youth with post-traumatic stress and mood disorders resulting from sexual abuse, as well as from physical abuse, violence, or grief. TF-CBT includes the following treatment components: assessment and engagement, psycho-education for trauma, self regulation techniques/skills, affective modulation, cognitive coping, the trauma narrative, in vivo exposure, and enhancing safety.

Strength-Based

For the last 20 years, I have used Strength-based therapy in my practice with adults. Strengths-based therapy is a type of positive psychotherapy and counseling that focuses on your internal strengths and resourcefulness, rather than on your weaknesses, failures, and shortcomings. The tenet is that this focus sets up a positive mindset that helps you build on your best qualities, find your strengths, improve resilience, and change your worldview to one that is more positive.

After being in therapy for 5 years, Lorah has been my absolute favorite therapist. I always feel seen, heard and never dismissed by her. She puts my thoughts into different perspectives without dismissing my feelings and provides very helpful advice to what I am struggling with. She calms my nerves whenever I feel overwhelmed in sharing personal experiences and truly cares to listen and help her clients. Thank you for being a great therapist!

What made me choose Lorah Joe as a therapist is that she looked like me. Too often its hard to find someone who looks like you in a field where you need them to be. She has always been understanding and helpful, a sound ear for listening and never telling me what she thinks I should do. Her energy is very warm and soft I recommend 10/10.
