Yvonne Lee
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, committed to helping people achieve their individual goals. People come to therapy for many reasons; one I've heard many people give is, to gain a new perspective and to have a safe place where they can vent their frustrations without judgment. Drawing on my counseling experience, family advocacy, community service, and educational work, I strive to help people recognize their inherent worth, build on their existing strengths, navigate conflict, and develop practical skills for lasting personal and professional growth.
People come to therapy for many reasons; one I've heard many people give, is to gain a new perspective and to have a safe place where they can vent their frustrations and voice their concerns without judgment.
While I am known for using a direct, compassionate, and collaborative approach, I believe meaningful change begins when people feel safe, seen, heard, and equipped to move forward. My mission is to help individuals and communities transform insight into action, relationships into sources of strength, and shared responsibility into lasting positive change.
First session
Like any first professional visit, the first session is about gaining history, understanding each other's communication style and determining what needs to be worked on and in what order of importance.
Strengths
My approach is unique and centered around the need of the client. Some people respond well to a little confrontation to recognize a need for change, that is when REBT (Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy) works well. Others respond better when the focus is on their strengths and ability to advocate for and manage their situations, so a Person-Centered approach would suit them. Still others are more action oriented and just want to get to the heart of the barriers and challenges they face, in their case Solution-Focused Therapy would offer the immediate response they're seeking. My approach stands out because my client stands out in each session.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone open to receiving assistance. They are unsure of the help they need, perhaps even unsure that they need help, but they come willing to talk and willing to listen. It's okay to come scared, it's okay to come angry and uncertain; the best step is forward. Come to the first session and we'll figure out what the second, third, and so on will look like.
Treatment methods
Solution-Focused Brief Treatment
This approach is best served for people who do not necessarily need to learn from past situations or family history. Their problems are current and the focus during sessions would be identifying what the client wants to achieve, what changes they want to happen and choose what steps would best bring about those results. The overarching purpose is to focus on the outcome, not the problem.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
Person-Centered is exactly as it reads. This approach is provided by creating a space of acceptance and by using strength-based language to help the client understand they are capable of moving themselves forward through any challenges. By inviting them to play an active role in their treatment discussions and provide their own insight, they are empowered to begin taking stronger steps on the path to their uniquely identified goals.
