(she/her)
Hi there, I'm Mercy. My job is to hold space for you; space to calm the storm, room to communicate with your commitment to self, and freedom to recognize the courage it took to get this far. I have over 29+ years of experience working in various fields within the scope of psychology; I have worked as a 7th grade teacher, college instructor, worked with foster/adoptive parents and children, social service work with Prevail (previously known as The Women's Center), various volunteer groups, community organizations, clinics, treatment centers, group homes within San Joaquin Co, San Diego Co., Sacramento Co., and more. I bring that level of experience and offer that knowledge base when relevant to our sessions. I have been both a client and a therapist. I believe in healing, helping and hope.
My communication style: The session's tone is led by deep breathing to center and prepare us for the work to be done. This type of tone allows us to take a moment to reflect and gives us space for thought on each topic. Therapy is hard work. No magic here. In session, we collaboratively seek to find that peaceful equilibrium with mind, body, and soul. We explore mindfulness training (DBT), behavior modification (CBT), emotional regulation techniques, and consistent check-ins to monitor our progress and reach our goals.
My approach: I’m here to help with unconditional positive regard, person-centered and solution-focused treatment options as we build our plan together. My therapeutic approach integrates overall health, experiential play, art therapy activities, and psychoeducation to deliver a comprehensive toolkit for sustainable growth.
My focus: I have worked with clients as little as 2 years old to 90+. Some sessions are full of play, some include art activities, and almost all have a level of learning to help our toolbox grow. As a middle school teacher for several years and a college instructor, I appreciate transitional times and honor each of life's stepping stones.
