I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Illinois, North Carolina, and Connecticut. I am registered to do telehealth in South Carolina and Florida. With 30 years of experience, I've had the privilege of working with adults at every stage of life, including a strong focus on older adults navigating chronic illness, grief, and major life transitions.

I have had the pleasure of working with older adults as well (age 65 and up) and helping to work through the different stages of life.

I have experience in helping clients with chronic illness, stress and anxiety, coping with grief and loss, motivation, self esteem and confidence, & depression. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. I am here to support & empower you in that journey.

First session

In our first session together we will make introductions, I will ask you about the main reason bringing you to therapy, and answer any questions that you may have. I will also spend some time getting to know you and asking some basic assessment questions. We will then talk about the plans with other sessions and what we want to put into place for some goals for treatment

Strengths

I have experience working mostly with adults. I have had the pleasure of working with older adults as well (age 65 and up) and helping to work through the different stages of life. I feel that with my many years of experience that I am able to provide empathy, supportive listening, and meeting with where the person is at in therapy. I take things at the pace that clients want to set.

Ideal clients

I enjoy working with adults (age 18 and up) I work best with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, chronic illness, or grief. Individuals facing significant life changes (e.g., career changes, relationship issues, or health diagnoses) Those struggling with stress related to work, relationships, or personal challenges. Also clients who may have difficulty managing their emotions or have maladaptive coping strategies and Individuals who may feel isolated or lack a strong support network. Especially working with clients who are motivated to engage in therapy and willing to explore their thoughts and feelings.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

As a dedicated therapist with 30 years of experience, I have focused my practice on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for the past five years. Clients have found CBT to be an effective approach for managing anxiety, stress, and depression, enabling them to develop practical strategies for overcoming challenges. I utilize CBT techniques to help clients identify and reframe negative thought patterns. This evidence-based approach empowers individuals to take control of their mental health and fosters resilience in the face of adversity.

Grief Therapy

Grief therapy can involve various treatment methods tailored to individual needs. I utilize several different treatments that can be very useful; CBT, Narrative therapy, and Mindfulness. I have experience working with Hospice and assisted clients with end of life issues for both the client on hospice services along with their friends and family.

Supportive

I believe that starting therapy can be challenging and anxiety provoking. I believe that it is important to provide supportive therapy to meet clients where they are at in the therapy process. I assist in building on strengths while offering support. With my utilizing Supportive counseling, I believe it provides a safe space for clients to explore their feelings and thoughts without judgment. I use active listening, empathy, and validation

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

This therapy can help clients become more aware of their thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and behaviors without judgement. Rather than trying to eliminate these painful thoughts or emotions, this can help change the relationship with those experiences

Debbie is a delight. I look forward to our weekly sessions. 5 weeks into therapy and Debbie feels like a dear trusted friend to me. I feel comfortable telling Debbie my most personal thoughts, better than with a family member. I had never talked with a therapist before but when my husband passed in March I found the grief and hurt too much to handle on my own. Debbie is patient and really listens to my pain. She makes me feel better by explaining the feelings I am dealing with.

Debbie without telling me her whole life story shares somethings in her life that i went through also, which gives me a feeling that i am not alone. She is soft spoken, doesn’t show pity , she gives me ideas how to handle it, sometimes from her own experience or work experience. I enjoy talking to her. I am always surprised when the hour is up.
