Hannah Voetberg
Hello, Welcome to my profile. My experience and education have taught me to respect people and honor them for who they are. I have had clients from all walks of life, cultures and faith traditions. For this reason, I have a collaborative approach to my work. I also believe that we are not our circumstances and our circumstances do not define us. Instead, we are whole people facing challenges. I get especially pleased when my clients have a “breakthrough moment,” when something finally makes sense or they are able to make a new decision that really works for them. When I am not at work, I play music, read, garden, hike and spend time with friends.
First session
Our first session is spent in introduction: Getting to know you, what you want to get out of working with me, what is successful ... and what isn't. I always make a point to send you out with something you can use. Because this part of treatment is so important, I don't rush it. If we need more than one session to make our plan, so be it.
Strengths
There are many good approaches to counseling/therapy, but the common factor for success is that people know someone cares. I listen with both ears and give you my full attention. Whether we are using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or Systems Theory or any other tool, who you are and what you express is paramount.
Ideal clients
The short answer is: My ideal client is willing to partner with me. They are willing to explore, consider challenging questions, answer honestly and take responsibility for their own wellness. I have some unique specialties: People who have developed a chronic illness or disability; people who have lost someone important to them through divorce, death or separation. I do very well with bright and gifted people.
Treatment methods
Eclectic
I use a variety of tools and therapies , depending on my client and the issues we are addressing. Words that describe my approach would be compassionate empowerment, holistic and responsive.
Christian Counseling
I have extensive experience in working with people from numerous Christian traditions. If a client wants, we will apply biblical principles to our conversations and assignments.
Psychodynamic
I use psychodynamic theory in understanding human development and the place at which cclients find themselves.
Structural Family Therapy
I especially use this when working with couples. It provides a strong basic structure for understanding how roles work together in relationships.
