Hello, I currently live in North Carolina with my husband and two dogs. I love nature, so getting outside daily is important to me! I feel grounded to the earth and connected by spending quiet time near trees. I have a unique work history that includes years of factory work, community mental health, Hospice, prison support groups, emergency rooms, and hospital inpatient settings. I am proud of my clinical experience and I feel that I can relate to many different types of because of my background. I look forward to meeting you!

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

During a first session, if the client is ok with it, I like to allow them to just talk about what has been bothering them. As I listen I am able to scribe the main thoughts and feelings I am listening for, in order to best help them.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I like to believe that I am non-judgemental. I start with an open slate. No preconceived notions about a person or their issues, everyone is unique and deserves to be treated with compassion. I ask questions that help me understand what the person is dealing with.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I like to work with folks who are interested in learning about themselves and are also open to learning new concepts. I do not assume anything about a person and respect their desire to be open and honest in their own time. No rush, no hurry, we need to take some time to build a rapport . Often folks cannot articulate their goals for therapy and that is OK! I can recall my first therapy session- I was a little scared and had no idea what to expect. Therapy , to me is the process of discovery!

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Based Therapy is a method that helps a person engage their thoughts with their current behaviors in order to help one become more aware of habits that keep us from growing.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Dialectical therapy focuses on four core skill sets: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. There is education up-front about how we think, act, and react. Then we focus on what behaviors we want to modify or change. Success will depend on daily awareness and practicing new skills.

Having been able to concisely communicate my very layered life story, from my own perspective, Sandy was able to build on that info, after taking notes while I was talking, making it a very productive first session. I came away feeling confident that I had picked someone who would know how to reach me authentically, listen with compassion, and teach me the why and how with clear direction. This is what works for my personality.
