Hello there! My name is Amy, I'm a private practice therapist in the NRH area who focuses on trauma, neurodivergence, and LGBT+ issues. I work with people from all walks of life and different lifestyles. I teach religion and philosophy at Texas Wesleyan University, and specialize in spiritual trauma.

I work with people from all walks of life and different lifestyles. I teach religion and philosophy at Texas Wesleyan University, and specialize in spiritual trauma.

I am happy to work with anyone individually or as a couple; and I do work with adolescents and families. I hope to hear from you soon!

First session

In our first session we'll do a medical intake in which we'll answer questions about your life, health concerns you might have, and some goals you have for therapy. This being said, it's also a wonderful time to get to know each other and see if we are a good fit as counselor and client.

Strengths

I've been working as a social worker and then private practice therapist since 2019, but before that I came from a life as a blue collar worker. I think my biggest strength is that I tend to take the experiences I've had the honor of being part of and bringing a practical voice to the therapeutic space.

Ideal clients

I like to think that I'm open to any type of client who is willing to sit and engage in a meaningful way. It doesn't matter your beliefs, where you come from, or your lifestyle; if you would like to sit and work towards a better understanding of yourself I'm more than happy to be there to help you process through your questions of self.

Treatment methods

EMDR

I am EMDR trained, I've utilized the modality for the last year and have found that it works especially well with clients who have experienced trauma who have difficulties expressing their memories verbally. I tend to utilize a strong amount of parts work prior to any bilateral stimulation within the therapeutic setting in hopes to build a strong resource foundation prior to entering into difficult memories for the client.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy along with psychoeducation is utilized in every one of my sessions. I find that the more a person knows about their patterns and the workings of their brain, the better able they are to recognize unhealthy patterns in their life outside of the therapeutic environment.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

I utilize IFS as a way to help "third party" emotions and life experiences for clients. This is particularly useful for those with disassociation, trauma, or difficulty identifying their feelings and thoughts on their life circumstances.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness based therapy is a way to blend the other three modalities together. It's difficult to process all at once the science behind our thought patterns as well as the practical implications of those thought patterns if we don't also become mindful of how our body reacts to our thoughts and feelings.
