About me

My career as a classroom teacher, assistant principal and university professor served me well in my current practice as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I earned my Doctorate in Education/Ed.D. from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL. As a university professor, I became the Multiple Subject Program Director, Graduate Reading Director, and Supervisor of Student Teachers with both national and international publications.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session together, we will start with introductions, establish treatment goals, and develop a therapeutic alliance. It is my intention to help each client reach their potential in life. I will not criticize, judge, or make a client feel embarrassed, but rather, facilitate a level of comfort and compassion.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Having worked with thousands of clients during the past 15 years in a variety of settings (hospital, private practice, group-clinical), I have been told by clients their awareness of my empathy, passion, and clinical judgment. Part of my philosophy as a teacher-educator was, students don't care what you teach them until they know you care about them". I believe the same is true in private practice: Clients don't care what you teach them until they know you care about them.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

As a psychotherapist in private practice, I possess a comprehensive understanding of mental health. My experience facilitating group therapy, individual therapy, and family therapy enables me to draw from a plethora of strategies and interventions to promote good mental health. Moreover, my passion and commitment, coupled with a deep sense of care for his clients, contributes to individual growth. Noted for my “tough love” approach, I am able gain trust and develop a strong therapeutic alliance with each client. In my leisure time he enjoys biking on the beach, hiking, restoring furniture, and spending time with family.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

As a cognitive-behavioral psychotherapist, I have learned the significance and connection between our thinking and our behavior. I often inform new clients "we do not live inconsistent of how we think." Our thinking about ourselves, our family and friends, and our career, has a tremendous impact on how we feel. The mind is powerful in terms of our emotions.

EMDR

Obtaining my EMDR Psychotherapy Certificate was one of the best things I have done since being a therapist. I have observed so many clients heal from past trauma. My approach to EMDR Therapy includes relaxation and guided imagery in an effort to help the client relax and allow memories to surface in a safe, nonjudgmental atmosphere.

Sex Therapy

Pornography Addiction: With porn so easily accessible and many men caught up in the "Mr. Nice Guy Syndrome", I find many of my male clients lost, having difficulty establishing a strong sense of male identity, poor boundaries, attempts to fix others, but neglecting to work on themselves. My work with men has provided a deep understanding of how men find pornography to be their "go to", their crutch for feeling good in the moment, yet left with guilt, shame, and regret. I attempt to peel back the layers of the onion and find the cause of the addiction and then work on how to increase self-worth, engage in meaningful relationships, and understand the cycle of pornography.

James is absolutely phenomenal. He has changed my life. I cannot even begin to explain how much I've grown in the almost six years I've been seeing him. He is funny, kind, insightful and, above all, authentic.
