When the time comes to make a change, it takes courage to ask for help. To be one who can respond to the request is a privilege. I believe the response needs gentle and warm and welcoming. I integrate my relational approach with long- and short-term, problem focused psychotherapeutic work. I am trained both psychodynamically and relationally and have recently added EMDR to my practice modalities to ease the burden of seemingly intractable trauma responses. My focus, above all, is to create a meaningful connection. That connection will provide a foundation for the work of diminishing suffering and supporting each person to be in their lives as fully and joyfully as possible.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

The power at the core of psychotherapy is the alchemy conjured by the connection between the person in the room and me. My first sessions are typically unstructured, in that, the client is leading the way we enter and the place we start when we are talking about why they are seeking therapy right now.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My treatment approach in all modalities in relational. I believe in and have experienced the power of connection - compassionate, collaborative, creative, and goal focused. We move together through the journey you are on, face the obstacles, and find paths that are paved with your wisdom, strength, and sense of grace so you can reach your treatment goals.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Starting in community mental health (access for all) and moving into my private practice, I have had experience working with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and grieving with adults, children, couples, and families. I specialize in working with people who have a history of trauma, big and small, and varied relational issues. I also work with the LGBTQ+ community. I have been doing this work for more than 35 years.

My treatment methods

EMDR

I use Attachment-Focused EMDR to help clients deal with crises and duress as it arises and help connect and clear the earlier related traumas.

Couples Counseling

The work of effective and compassionate communication is crucial to all relationships. I find sitting with couples and navigating difficulties a wonderful journey to make.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

As a social worker the foundational underpinning of everything I do is meeting each person in each situation where they are.

Feminist

I hope this needs no explanation. I am a feminist and I work to help women make their way as they level the playing field.

Relational

I depend on the work of creating a relationship as the stepping off point for all the work that follows.

From the moment I read Lisa’s profile, I knew she would be a good therapist. She is exactly as she is described herself. She’s a great listener, highly educated, and didn’t shy away from the hard questions. I felt very safe sharing with her. After months of trying to find a good fit, I feel like I can finally get started on my mental health journey.
