About
I believe the client knows the answer within themselves, but they just need help in realizing it, so my job is to as provocative questions to draw out the solution. My own pursuit of healing and Chinese-American background has inspired me to combine culture with therapy, offering relatable care that embraces our brokenness and yet, finds strength in our weaknesses. I deeply enjoy having deep conversations about challenges like cross-cultural identity issues, anxiety, depression, and life transitions because I know how important it is to have an accepting professional that can offer an objective viewpoint with unconditional positive regard.
First session
In our very first session, I work on being nonjudgmental so that you feel comfortable and safe enough to share your experiences with me. I welcome feedback so that I can meet you where you are at and pace our work together to help you develop relationships with clear expectations and firm boundaries as well as develop an independent identity. I respect all parts of your experience and make sure that you feel empowered to speak up if you ever feel unsure about your care. Using eclectic and tailored techniques from CBT, holistic, and humanistic approaches, I support you in managing your stressors as well as finding a life full of purpose and meaning.
Strengths
I believe therapy is about team work. I don’t have a directive approach of giving advice. I believe the client knows the answer within themselves, but they just need help in realizing it, so my job is to as provocative questions to draw out the solution. Usually the client knows the right thing to do, but they have difficulty doing it, so it’s a matter of tapping into the motivation to change. The hardest things to do is to start and stop a habit, but I believe that habit builds character, so it’s a matter of starting with little choices. I never assume I know exactly what you’re going through, so I never want to overstep my bounds. Your story is always at the center of our work, but I try to ensure that the skills you develop here correct negative thought patterns and toxic cycles of behavior.
Ideal clients
Do you feel like you have a lot of trauma that you buried for so long due to shame and stigma? Do you feel like your buried trauma interferes with your quality of life? Do you feel as if you're supposed to just get over it, but you're haunted by memories? Do you feel as if life is not ideal?
Treatment methods
Attachment-based
I delve into the early attachment styles with parents and how they've impacted current relationships.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
If the client is willing to put in the effort to complete homework, I can assign thought trackers or core beliefs handout to counter negative thoughts and make them more balanced.
Christian Counseling
Especially with grief or loss, I like to bring in existential questions about the meaning and purpose of life.
