Thank you for taking the time to learn about me. Whether you are exploring therapy for yourself or as a couple, for the first time or returning to it, let us acknowledge the courage and humility it takes to seek support outside of yourself - a powerful step toward healing, growth, and change. You may be navigating stress, loss, disconnection, conflict, anger, depression, anxiety, a difficult event, or living with trauma. You may already have insight into your challenges and are looking for the right support to nudge you forward. You are here. I have been a mental health service provider since 2004, after earning my M.A. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Central Florida. I'm currently pursuing a doctorate in Conflict Analysis and Resolution at Nova Southeastern University, where my research focuses on relational resonance, relationships, and reconciliation in conflict resolution. My therapeutic approach is trauma-informed and grounded in evidence-based practices, including EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral, Acceptance & Commitment, Mindfulness, Interpersonal, Humanistic and Client-Centered, Psychodynamic therapeutic modalities, among others. While theory and technique are crucial, I believe the heart of therapy lies in genuine human connection.

If the problem in your relationship is about power and control (abuse of the mental, emotional, or physical types), couple therapy may not be adequate, appropriate or even safe for you.

I sit with you. I listen to understand your unique lived experiences. I support you. Through questioning, you are guided to the answers you seek; with your permission, I offer different perspectives and encouragement as you do the meaningful work of change. We build a therapeutic relationship rooted in trust, honesty, and collaboration. I look forward to meeting you and supporting you on your path to greater well-being.

First session

To truly experience stepping into the safety bubble of the therapeutic environment and relationship, where you are met with respect, with total acceptance, non-judgment, validation of your lived experiences, genuine kindness, and care through empathetic listening and gentle questioning to learn about you and better serve you. Do expect to sigh, to feel relief, to feel seen, to feel heard, to experience your aloneness being undone, to feel connection, to no longer perform, to put down the mask, to be yourself, to relaxxx...to reconnect with hope, for you, for your relationship, for your family, to reconnect with yourself, reconnect with the person/people with whom are attending therapy, to understand the value of introspection, self-reflection, and the value of the required discomfort to grow and change; to know you have support along the way. Pragmatically, the first session is an assessment and is different from follow-up sessions, beginning with your clinician being legally obligated to verbalize some parts of consent forms you already signed at the time that you signed up for therapy. If you are hesitating to go to therapy because you are worried about being honest about suicidal thoughts and assume you will be involuntarily placed somewhere, you are not alone in thinking that way. What you may discover is that you find relief and support because you are in a space with someone who cares about and values you, and together you develop a safety plan in that very first session, so you are not left alone with your scary thoughts the next time you have them. I say that to preface that you please expect confidentiality and privacy, and their limitations, to be verbally explained to you, after which you will be asked if you would like to proceed with the session. You have a choice. You are the driver. If we proceed, you will learn about the therapeutic process itself, including its boundaries. You can ask any question you wish answered. Please expect to be asked about your reason for attending therapy at this time. Why now? Then expect to be asked lots of questions about your current life and your history. Sounds like a lot? That first session is never long enough, and we surely are not able to capture everything. That is one reason therapy is a process. You also are not obligated to answer all the questions asked of you during that first session. 'I decline to answer at this time" is a perfectly reasonable response. The therapeutic process accepts your truth in the moment. It understands and expects that your truth may change over time. No, that does not make you a liar. Allowing yourself to be fully seen is a bona fide challenging thing to do. You get there when you are ready. You are supported along the way. Some anxiety, some awkwardness are normal. Forgetting to say something you really wanted to is normal. There will be more sessions. Each one is a little sliver of time. Assessment remains fluid. You don't have to have anything figured out. Come as you are; we will figure it out together. In your first session as a couple, an additional important task is to identify the goals of therapy for both members of the couple. If those goals differ, or are even incompatible, we may re-assess and re-map how therapy could be beneficial. You will also learn about the increased complexity of boundaries when the relationship dynamic between two people is the client. It is not uncommon to be met with the suggestion to meet with the clinician separately, then together again.

Strengths

I bring love, authenticity, genuineness, safety, and connection to our sessions. My clients have reported finding it helpful and healing when we are able to name, understand, and reframe what they bring to therapy together in our sessions. I consider being dedicated to a reflective practice a strength. A reflective practice involves thinking about my sessions after they are over, often when I am writing my notes, to grow as a clinician, prepare for the next session, and provide continuity. I take care of myself outside of sessions to be emotionally resilient, so you, my client, never feel you have to take care of me. I take care of myself so I can take care of you. I think there is great strength in the space between valuing myself as a professional and remaining connected to my fallibility as a human being.

Ideal clients

I will do my best to support any individual who chooses to be in my actual or virtual therapy room, as long as what they bring is ethically within the scope of my competence. People come to therapy with different histories, identities, concerns, strengths, needs, levels of insight, and readiness for change. My responsibility is to determine whether I have the competence to serve you well, and if I do, to meet you where you are.

I felt very seen, heard, and understood. Especially with my spiritual and nerdy science side. So thankful to have found her. I wasn't looking for a female therapist, it was by accident, and I realized in session with her that I very much need a to tend to some mother wounds I wasn't fully aware of, and I feel only a woman can provide that level of support. Also very knowledgable in ADHD, Pre/menopause, nervous system. and female related mechanisms. She's a gem!

I couldn't choose all of the therapy styles but Vyata Mungur is one of the most compassionate, intelligent, and caring and friendly and warm person that I have talked to. She has been my only therapist but the best one. She genuinely cares for me and my growth. If you're looking for a therapist that cares, she is the one!
