Hi, I’m Alexa Eguchi Diaz, LMFT. I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist passionate about supporting individuals through recovery, mental health challenges, relationship difficulties, trauma, and meaningful life transitions. I believe therapy should be a space where you feel safe enough to be honest, supported enough to be vulnerable, and encouraged enough to grow. My approach is warm, collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in attachment-based, psychodynamic, trauma-informed, and cognitive behavioral therapies. I believe our thoughts, emotions, experiences, and relationships all influence the ways we cope and move through life. In our work together, we may explore the deeper patterns that have shaped how you see yourself and relate to others while also developing practical tools to help you navigate challenges in the present. I believe meaningful change involves both understanding yourself more deeply and practicing new ways of responding. I especially enjoy working with individuals who feel stuck in patterns they understand but have difficulty changing, are navigating recovery, or are experiencing challenges with relationships, boundaries, self-trust, or major life changes. You don’t have to have everything figured out before starting therapy. My role is not to tell you who you should be or what choices you should make. Instead, I want to help you better understand yourself, identify what matters most to you, and feel more confident in creating a life that feels authentic, connected, and sustainable.

First session

Your first session is an opportunity to slow down, get comfortable, and begin getting to know one another. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, what you’ve been experiencing, and what you hope will feel different in your life. We may also explore your relationships, history, current challenges, and the patterns you’ve noticed. You don’t need to know exactly what to say or have your goals completely figured out. I’ll guide the conversation and make space for you to share at your own pace. My goal is for you to feel heard, understood, and comfortable asking questions about the therapy process. Together, we’ll begin identifying areas you may want to work on and discuss how I can support you. You’ll also get a sense of my approach and what working together might feel like. Therapy is a collaborative process, so your perspective and what feels important to you will always be part of the conversation. Most importantly, I want your first session to feel like a place where you can be yourself without needing to have everything figured out. We’re not expected to solve everything in one session. Instead, we’ll begin building a foundation of trust, understanding, and direction for the work ahead.

Strengths

One of my greatest strengths as a therapist is my ability to create a space that feels warm, genuine, and nonjudgmental while still being honest and purposeful. I want clients to feel comfortable bringing their full selves into therapy, including the parts that may feel difficult, confusing, or uncomfortable to talk about. My approach stands out because I balance deeper self-exploration with practical change. I draw from attachment-based, psychodynamic, trauma-informed, and cognitive behavioral therapies to understand the experiences and relationships that have shaped you while also helping you identify patterns, develop coping strategies, and make meaningful behavioral changes. I bring curiosity and compassion to the work rather than judgment. I believe behaviors often develop for a reason, and understanding that reason can create greater self-awareness and choice. At the same time, I believe insight is most helpful when it can translate into how you live, communicate, cope, and relate to yourself and others. I also value honesty and collaboration. I won’t tell you who you should be or what decisions you should make. Instead, I’ll work alongside you to explore what feels important, identify what may be keeping you stuck, and help you develop a stronger sense of self-trust. My goal is for therapy to feel like a place where you can both understand yourself more deeply and practice creating the changes you want. I strive to meet each client where they are while helping them move toward greater connection, authenticity, and a life that feels sustainable and meaningful.

Ideal clients

I work with individuals who may feel stuck in patterns that they understand intellectually but have difficulty changing, or who are navigating a period of significant change and want support making sense of what comes next. I particularly enjoy working with clients experiencing substance use or recovery concerns, co-occurring mental health challenges, trauma, relationship difficulties, complex family dynamics, or major life transitions. You may be working to rebuild trust in yourself, establish healthier boundaries, understand recurring relationship patterns, change behaviors that are no longer serving you, or reconnect with who you are outside of the expectations of others. Wherever you are in that process, therapy can offer a space to slow down, become more aware of what is happening beneath the surface, and begin making choices that feel more intentional and aligned with your values.

Treatment methods

Attachment-based

I use an attachment-based approach to help clients understand how their early experiences and relationships may influence the way they connect with themselves and others today. We explore patterns around trust, closeness, boundaries, conflict, vulnerability, and emotional needs, while creating a therapeutic relationship that feels safe, consistent, and nonjudgmental. My goal is to help clients recognize these patterns with compassion, develop greater self-awareness, and build healthier, more secure ways of relating.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Together, we identify unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that may be contributing to current challenges and develop practical strategies for responding differently. I use CBT to support healthier coping, behavioral change, and greater confidence in making choices that align with clients’ goals and values.

Psychodynamic

I use a psychodynamic approach to help clients explore how past experiences, relationships, and emotions may shape the patterns they experience today. Together, we look beneath the surface to understand recurring thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and relationship dynamics. Developing this insight can help clients better understand themselves, increase self-awareness, and create more intentional ways of responding in the present.
