New to Grow
I am Dr. Steven F. Murphy, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor dedicated to helping individuals navigate life’s challenges and heal from difficult experiences. In my practice, I primarily use Integrative Developmental Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to support meaningful and lasting change. Together, we will explore what has brought you to therapy and identify the most effective path forward. My approach focuses on helping you recognize and reshape unhelpful thought patterns, behaviors, and long-standing life dynamics that may be limiting your growth. As you develop healthier perspectives and coping strategies, you will strengthen your emotional and social foundation. This process empowers you to build resilience, gain clarity, and move beyond obstacles with greater confidence and purpose. My goal is to provide a supportive environment where you feel understood, equipped, and capable of creating the positive changes you deserve.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
During our first session, my priority is to ensure you feel safe, supported, and heard. We will begin by checking in on your overall well-being—exploring how you are feeling about yourself and assessing any immediate safety concerns to ensure you or others are not at risk. Next, we will review any submitted documents and discuss any areas that may require further attention or clarification. This allows us to move forward with a clear and thoughtful understanding of your needs. Our conversation will center on you. Through open and honest dialogue, we will explore your concerns to determine whether there are any clinically diagnosable conditions present. If a diagnosis is appropriate, I will clearly explain it and provide supportive information based on the DSM-5-TR, ensuring you understand what it means and how it guides your care. Finally, we will collaborate to create a flexible and personalized treatment plan. Together, we will determine session frequency, length, and measurable goals, as well as establish times to review your progress and adjust the plan as needed. As you grow and meet your goals, we will also discuss when it is appropriate to reduce or conclude services—empowering you to move forward with confidence and independence.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
What distinguishes my therapeutic approach is my commitment to empowering clients to discover what works best for them. I believe each individual has the capacity for growth and change. My role is to help you access that potential by creating a space where you can be honest with yourself, take ownership of your journey, and build the skills necessary for lasting success. In our work together, I serve as a teacher, leader, and guide—supporting you while equipping you with tools to move forward confidently and independently. As an integrative therapist, I do not subscribe to the idea that one method or theory fits every person or every concern. Each client’s experiences, challenges, and strengths are unique. Therefore, I use a client-centered approach that thoughtfully addresses the different areas of your life, providing focused care where it is needed most. This individualized attention fosters meaningful and sustainable improvement. I also recognize that progress looks different for everyone. While the terms “results” and “progress” are often used interchangeably, growth is not one-size-fits-all. My approach incorporates teaching, skill-building, pattern recognition, and reflective recall to help you better understand your thoughts, behaviors, and emotional responses. Together, we evaluate where you have been, where you are now, and where you want to go. By increasing your awareness of past and present patterns, you gain clarity and direction. This insight empowers you to move beyond feeling stuck and toward achieving greater personal goals, measurable growth, and a stronger sense of purpose.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
Clients who tend to experience the greatest success in working with me are those who are ready to grow and improve their current circumstances through open, honest dialogue. A willingness to reflect, challenge oneself, and take personal accountability is an important part of the therapeutic process. I believe therapy is a meaningful investment in your well-being. When we share the understanding that change is possible, therapy becomes a powerful opportunity for renewal and a fresh start. You are not defined by your past—you have the capacity to create a stronger, healthier future. Together, we will establish clear, meaningful, and attainable goals tailored to your unique needs. These goals will be thoughtfully paced according to the depth and complexity of the concerns you wish to resolve, ensuring steady and sustainable progress.
Integrative
I have use Integrative therapy in practice for 11 years with clients experiencing dual diagnosis and multilayered life adjustment challenges. Integrative Developmental Therapy treats clients by allowing the therapist to use multiple treatment methods to address personal, social, emotional, and cultural challenges. Integrative therapy allow clients not to be constricted to a particular formation of therapy which may not be best for their situational needs. I use this method in private practice with client who have deep rooted personal, social, emotional, and cultural issues which are intertangled with two are more diagnosable issues. This method does not promote one therapy method over the other but rather highlights and blends best practice application for the clients need as they proceed through treatment.
