Melissa Mullins
I’m a compassionate, down-to-earth therapist who believes therapy should feel like a safe place to exhale, be honest, and make sense of what you’re experiencing. With 20 years of experience in behavioral health and 16 years as a licensed clinician, along with a background in nursing, I bring a broad and integrative perspective to emotional and mental wellness. I work with women navigating anxiety, life transitions, relationships, motherhood, trauma, and the many responsibilities that can leave you feeling overwhelmed or disconnected from yourself. My approach is warm, collaborative, and practical. I want you to feel heard, not judged and supported as you develop insight, strengthen your coping skills, and reconnect with the parts of yourself that may have gotten lost along the way.
First session
Your first session is an opportunity to slow down, breathe, and begin telling your story in a space where you do not have to have everything figured out. We will talk about what brought you to therapy, what has been weighing on you, and what you hope will be different as a result of our work together. I want you to leave your first session feeling heard, understood, and more hopeful not like you have simply spent an hour answering questions. We will begin identifying the concerns that deserve attention and developing a direction for our work together. Most importantly, therapy should feel collaborative. You do not have to perform, have the “right” answers, or know exactly where to begin. We will figure that out together.
Strengths
One of my greatest strengths is my ability to meet people where they are while still helping them move forward. With 20 years of experience in behavioral health and 16 years as a licensed clinician, I’ve learned that therapy is not one-size-fits-all. Sometimes you need someone to simply listen and create space for you to process; other times, you need someone who will gently challenge you, help you see a different perspective, and hold you accountable to the changes you want to make. I bring a warm, honest, and practical approach to therapy. My background in both behavioral health and nursing allows me to consider the whole person, not just a diagnosis or a single concern. I want clients to leave sessions feeling understood, but also with greater clarity, useful tools, and a sense that change is possible.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is a woman who may be navigating anxiety, stress, relationship concerns, motherhood, major life transitions, trauma, or simply the feeling that she has spent so much time taking care of everyone else that she has lost touch with herself. She may be high-functioning and accustomed to being the strong one, while privately feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, or uncertain about what comes next. She may be seeking therapy for the first time or returning because she knows something needs to change. She is open to honest reflection and wants more than simply talking about what is wrong, she wants to understand herself, develop healthier patterns, and feel more grounded in her life. I work especially well with clients who value a therapist who is warm and compassionate but also willing to gently challenge them, offer perspective, and help turn insight into meaningful change.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT as one of the tools in my practice to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I also incorporate a person-centered, trauma-informed, and solution-focused approach based on each client’s needs and goals. My goal is to make therapy practical and personalized, helping clients recognize patterns, develop healthier ways of responding, and build skills they can use in everyday life.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I believe therapy works best when clients feel genuinely heard, respected, and understood. I create a supportive space where you can be honest about what you are experiencing without fear of judgment. We work together to understand your experiences, identify what you need, and build on your strengths while honoring your values, goals, and individual journey.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
I use a solution-focused approach to help clients identify what they want to change and recognize the strengths and resources they already have. Rather than focusing only on what is wrong, we explore what is working, what is possible, and what small, meaningful steps can move you toward the life you want. This approach helps therapy feel practical, purposeful, and connected to your goals.
