Theodora Drescher
I’m an LICSW with over 30 years of experience, specializing in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy helping people live with the brain they have, the body they have and the heart they have. It is the law of nature that we live along these three dimensions and discovering environments, people, lifestyles that work best for you is the focus of therapy with me.
This process supports you in making decisions that truly align with your best interests.
My experience includes working with children with adhd and for the last 12 years with adults who struggle with executive functioning and/or adhd. Over the course of my practice, I have worked with many of the diagnoses in the DSM-V and have been amazed at the resilience and commitment people have to getting better. It is always an honor and privilege to journey with people on the way to their better selves.
First session
In our first session, I’ll invite you to share about yourself and what matters most in your life. We’ll work together to clarify what you’re hoping for in your future. If that vision feels unclear, we’ll take time to explore and ask thoughtful questions so we can find a meaningful direction for our work together. Often times the future is unclear, so we take our time and explore those things that are important to you and others in your life.
Strengths
My approach is grounded in an evidence-based model that focuses less on the past and problems, and more on what’s working now and what’s possible moving forward. Through thoughtful, curiosity-driven questions, I help you reflect on your own experiences, gain deeper self-understanding, and develop a stronger sense of self. This process supports you in making decisions that truly align with your best interests.
Ideal clients
I work best with adults who are hoping for a better future for themselves. They are curious about themselves and interested in exploring a vision for their life that includes feelings of calm, stability, self-acceptance, good-enough and experiences of productive, competent, confident and good enough. Their struggles would include difficulty with self-regulation: attention, concentration, prioritizing, getting tasks started, completing tasks, poor working memory, feelings of depression, anxiety. The ideal client would recognize that their own uniqueness and be interested in cultivating a better life.
Treatment methods
Solution-Focused Brief Treatment
In my work, SFBT serves as a guiding framework that emphasizes clients’ strengths, resilience, and existing resources. Rather than centering sessions on problems or diagnoses, I collaborate with clients to define their optimal future vision for themselves. From there we explore what that might look like in the future and how that might be better than what is happening in the present.
