Hi. I have lived in Tucson almost all my life and never tire of the weather. I enjoy hiking and just being outside, overall, so the sunshine the majority of the year keeps me busy. I have a Doctorate in Behavioral Health Management and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, both were obtained from Arizona State University. I have been practicing for about 6 years and have been in outpatient settings, prison setting, VA facilities, and am currently in a residential facility. I have also managed a private practice for over 4 years, helping people with a wide variety of concerns. I have been trained in EMDR, Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Sand Tray Therapy.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
During our first session, I will introduce myself and tell you my experiences, education and training. I will also share my thoughts on what therapy looks like and let you know that you are the expert in your life. I will explain my role and how you can depend on me to help you. Together we will explore various aspects of your past, and present environments, to develop a comprehensive treatment plan. We will also review your screening scores and I may ask you to complete additional scales, depending on the direction we take. We will begin discussing the Autonomic Nervous system and how that relates to stress and trauma. We will also begin learning resourcing (self soothing) activities to practice outside of therapy.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
My strengths include listening attentively and being open to your experiences and perceptions. I don't see people as having the "wrong answer" or being "broken" in any way. I see people as having developed protective measures from their past that have proven to be successful. I believe you are the expert in your life and will work collaboratively with you to help manage problems with anxiety, trauma, depression, and substance use. Not sure if therapy is right for you? I'm ready to explore those feelings and help you make an informed decision.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
My dream client is a person who is ready for change and understands that therapy can be quite challenging at times.
Eclectic
I understand that therapy can make folks vulnerable and that a lot of us need time to create a good relationship with the therapist. Creating this relationship is primarily the role of the therapist but needs your input/help to make the relationship successful. Being on time, and present, for therapy help to build your ability to be fully present and participate in therapy. I use a combination of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PET), Sand Tray, Cognitive Behavioral Treatment (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Mindfulness, Meditation and a lot of Psychoeducation. I believe one method of treatment does not fully support persons seeking help and by having a variety of tools at my disposal I can better help the person to overcome barriers.

After the first appointment, I felt that Dr. Roun has looked at the information I provided before we meet. It's obvious that he understood my situation and had a plan for treatment. This is the first therapist that had a plan and explained it to me in a way that I can understand. For the first time ever I feel like I'm actually going to make meaningful progress. I have a good feeling about David. I really hope I'll finally be able to control my anxiety and depression.

We are in the beginning stages of my therapy. So far it appears that Dr. Roun does listen to me and that will be an important component to him helping me attain my goal(s).
