Hi, I’m Gretchen Raring, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW—NJ, FL, AZ & ND; LICSW—MA) with a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Temple University in Philadelphia. I bring over 20 years of experience supporting individuals across diverse populations and ages, including mental health, veterans, people experiencing homelessness, and those involved in the criminal justice system. I’m passionate about creating a safe, collaborative space where clients feel truly seen and heard. Life can be complex, and everything is connected—your thoughts, feelings, behaviors, relationships, and experiences all influence one another. My approach blends warmth with practicality, helping you explore these connections while developing tools and strategies that support meaningful, lasting change. I work with each person where they are, honoring their pace and goals while fostering growth, clarity, and self-understanding.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
Our first session is all about getting to know each other and doing a full intake. We’ll go through some questions about your background, what’s been challenging, and what brings you to therapy right now. I’ll also share a bit about how I work and answer any questions you have. You don’t need to have it all figured out—this session is about listening, understanding, and starting to build trust. Together, we’ll begin shaping a plan that fits your goals and feels right for you.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
As a therapist, I am known for my deep compassion, authenticity, and ability to create a safe, non-judgmental space where clients feel truly seen and heard. With over two decades of experience, I stay grounded, genuine, and approachable in every session. Clients often describe me as patient, insightful, and deeply attuned to their emotional needs. I am collaborative by nature and believe strongly in working with you, not just for you. My approach combines empathy with actionable guidance—I help you explore your inner world while providing strategies and tools that support meaningful, lasting change. I’m adaptable, responsive, and skilled at meeting clients exactly where they are. Above all, my commitment is to your growth. Whether we are strengthening your sense of self, unpacking challenges, or building new skills, I show up with consistency, respect, and a genuine belief in your ability to grow, thrive, and create the life you want.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I work best with clients who see therapy as a true partnership. Collaboration is key—we move together at a pace that feels right while focusing on what matters most to you. If you’re ready to feel heard, supported, and empowered, let’s take this journey side by side.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT helps you see how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. Together, we’ll identify patterns that may be holding you back and develop practical strategies to manage stress, reduce negative thinking, and create positive change. It’s collaborative, goal-focused, and gives you tools that last beyond our sessions
Positive Psychology
I use Positive Psychology to help you build on your existing strengths, cultivate inner strength, and create a more fulfilling, meaningful life. This approach isn’t about ignoring challenges or forcing positivity—it’s about noticing what’s already working within you and using those strengths to support growth and well-being. Together, we’ll explore your values, strengths, and sources of meaning, helping you reconnect with the parts of yourself that inspire confidence, motivation, and purpose. I’ll guide you in developing habits that enhance emotional balance, gratitude, self-compassion, and realistic optimism.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
We focus on your goals, strengths, and resources rather than dwelling on problems. This practical, collaborative, and future-focused approach emphasizes what’s possible and how positive change can happen. Together, we’ll clarify what you want to achieve and identify small, actionable steps that move you toward your goals. I help you recognize patterns of success you already have and build on them to create solutions that fit your life and values.
Strength-Based
This approach focuses on your unique strengths, talents, and resources rather than just problems. Together, we’ll explore what’s already working in your life, apply your strengths to challenges, set meaningful goals, and create solutions that fit your values. The result? Greater confidence, motivation, and a stronger sense of agency to shape the life you want.
