Hi, I’m Gretchen Raring, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW—NJ, FL, AZ & ND; LICSW—MA) with 20+ years of experience helping people navigate life’s challenges. I work with individuals across all ages and backgrounds, including those dealing with mental health concerns, trauma, veterans’ issues, homelessness, and involvement in the criminal justice system. I create a safe, supportive space where you can feel truly heard. Together, we’ll explore how your thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and experiences connect—and develop practical strategies to help you manage stress, build clarity, and create meaningful change at your own pace.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Our first session is all about getting to know each other and completing a full intake. We’ll discuss your background, what’s been challenging, and what brings you to therapy at this time. I’ll also explain my approach and answer any questions you have. You don’t need to have everything figured out-this session is about being heard, building understanding, and starting to establish trust. Together, we’ll begin shaping a plan that aligns with your goals and feels right for you.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I am known for my deep compassion, authenticity, and ability to create a safe, non-judgmental space where clients feel truly seen and heard. With over 20 years of experience, I stay grounded, approachable, and attentive to each person’s emotional needs—clients often describe me as patient, insightful, and deeply attuned. My approach is collaborative and practical. I combine empathy with actionable guidance, helping you explore your inner world while building strategies and skills for meaningful, lasting change. I adapt to each client’s pace and needs, meeting you exactly where you are. Above all, my focus is on your growth. Whether strengthening your sense of self, navigating challenges, or developing new skills, I bring consistency, respect, and a genuine belief in your ability to thrive and create the life you want.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work best with clients who view therapy as a true partnership. Collaboration is central-we move at a pace that feels right for you while focusing on what matters most in your life. If you’re ready to feel heard, supported, and empowered, I’m here to walk alongside you on this journey.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT helps you see how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. Together, we’ll identify patterns that may be holding you back and develop practical strategies to manage stress, reduce negative thinking, and create positive change. It’s collaborative, goal-focused, and gives you tools that last beyond our sessions

Positive Psychology

I use Positive Psychology to help you build on your existing strengths, cultivate inner strength, and create a more fulfilling, meaningful life. This approach isn’t about ignoring challenges or forcing positivity—it’s about noticing what’s already working within you and using those strengths to support growth and well-being. Together, we’ll explore your values, strengths, and sources of meaning, helping you reconnect with the parts of yourself that inspire confidence, motivation, and purpose. I’ll guide you in developing habits that enhance emotional balance, gratitude, self-compassion, and realistic optimism.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

We focus on your goals, strengths, and resources rather than dwelling on problems. This practical, collaborative, and future-focused approach emphasizes what’s possible and how positive change can happen. Together, we’ll clarify what you want to achieve and identify small, actionable steps that move you toward your goals. I help you recognize patterns of success you already have and build on them to create solutions that fit your life and values.

Strength-Based

This approach focuses on your unique strengths, talents, and resources rather than just problems. Together, we’ll explore what’s already working in your life, apply your strengths to challenges, set meaningful goals, and create solutions that fit your values. The result? Greater confidence, motivation, and a stronger sense of agency to shape the life you want.
