Ruby Brewer
I'm a trauma-informed therapist providing **individual telehealth therapy for adults (18+)**. I work with people navigating anxiety, OCD, trauma histories, personality disorders, emotional dysregulation, and the hidden weight of living in survival mode for too long.
Individual Therapy for Adults | Trauma, OCD, Anxiety & Personality Disorders: Direct, compassionate, evidence-based therapy that goes beyond coping skills to create meaningful, lasting change.
I bring a steady, grounded style—direct when needed, supportive always—and use CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, exposure and response prevention (ERP), and evidence-based trauma approaches to help clients understand their patterns and regain control of their lives. I also have extensive experience with justice-involved individuals, helping people rebuild identity, stability, and self-trust after systems involvement. I help individuals work through relationship challenges, but **I do not provide couples or family therapy, or medication management.** My work centers on safety, clarity, and meaningful, real-world change.
First session
In our first session, the focus is on creating a safe, steady space where you can talk openly without judgment or pressure. We move at your pace—nothing is rushed, nothing is forced, and you never have to share more than you’re ready for. I explain confidentiality clearly so you know exactly how your information is protected and where the boundaries are. From there, we explore what’s bringing you in, what you’ve been carrying, and what you’d like to see change. We’ll map out initial goals together and begin identifying the patterns or stressors that are impacting your life. You’ll leave with a sense of clarity, a direction that feels manageable, and the reassurance that you have a therapist who respects your pace, your autonomy, and your story.
Strengths
My strengths lie in working with complex clinical presentations, particularly trauma, personality disorders, OCD, and justice-system involvement. I'm skilled at recognizing the patterns beneath the chaos, identifying what's happening without judgment, and helping clients understand themselves in ways that feel grounding rather than pathologizing. I balance structure with compassion, directness with warmth, and evidence-based interventions with real-world practicality. I'm comfortable having difficult conversations, challenging unhelpful patterns, and working collaboratively with clients who haven't found traditional approaches helpful. Clients often tell me they finally feel understood and that therapy makes sense in ways it hasn't before.
Ideal clients
I work best with adults who are exhausted from holding it together. You think deeply, feel intensely, and you’re tired of being told to “just use coping skills” when that’s never been enough. You may be dealing with anxiety, OCD, trauma, or relationship patterns that keep repeating despite insight. You’re likely self-aware and capable, but stuck in cycles of overthinking, avoidance, or emotional overwhelm. You’re ready for real, direct work that challenges patterns, builds tolerance for discomfort, and actually changes how you think, feel, and show up in your life.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT to help clients break out of anxious, overwhelming, or self-critical thought patterns. Together, we map the cycle between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and build tools that increase control, confidence, and flexibility. In sessions, we identify unhelpful patterns and replace them with skills that actually move life forward. I also work with personality disorders, focusing on patterns in relationships, emotional regulation, and core beliefs about self and others. This includes helping clients build stability, improve interpersonal effectiveness, and develop more adaptive ways of coping that support long-term change.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I use DBT to help clients build skills for managing intense emotions, improving relationships, and staying grounded during stress. Sessions focus on mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and healthier communication. I tailor DBT tools to real-life situations so clients can use them immediately outside of session.
Motivational Interviewing
I use Motivational Interviewing to help clients clarify what they want, understand what’s getting in the way, and strengthen their own motivation for change. My approach is collaborative and non-judgmental, helping clients explore ambivalence and move toward goals at a pace that feels doable and authentic.
Exposure Response Prevention (ERP)
I use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) to break the cycle of obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors. Together, we intentionally face triggers in a gradual, controlled way while resisting the urge to neutralize or avoid. I keep the work structured but real—pushing when needed, supporting when it’s hard—so clients build tolerance for uncertainty, reduce anxiety, and stop feeling controlled by their thoughts.
