Adrienne Burrell
I’m a warm, down-to-earth therapist with over 7 years of experience supporting people through life’s challenges. I enjoy working with adults who feel overwhelmed by anxiety, people pleasing, rejection sensitivity, relationship patterns, or burnout.
Do you show up for everyone else, but struggle to prioritize yourself? Therapy can help you understand your relational patterns, set boundaries without fear of rejection, and reconnect with who you are beyond everyone else’s expectations.
If you are ready to reconnect with yourself, build self-trust, and honor your own needs and wants, I may be a good therapeutic fit for you on your healing journey.
First session
My hope is that you leave our first session feeling heard, understood, and comfortable enough to be yourself. You don't need to have the right words, know exactly what you want to work on, or have everything figured out before we meet. We'll spend time getting to know you, understanding what has brought you to therapy, and exploring what you hope might feel different in your life. I'll listen with curiosity and compassion, ask questions to help us better understand your experiences, and give you space to share at a pace that feels comfortable. Therapy with me is collaborative. You can expect warmth and encouragement, along with gentle, thoughtful challenges when they may help you see yourself or a situation differently. My goal isn't to tell you who to be, but to help you reconnect with who you are and what matters to you.
Strengths
I bring warmth, curiosity, and a nonjudgmental approach. I’m gentle yet assertive, offering encouragement while helping clients recognize their strengths, challenge patterns that hold them back, and reconnect with who they are beyond others’ expectations.
Ideal clients
You may be the person others turn to for support, the one who keeps things together, or the one who tries to make sure everyone else is okay. But beneath that, you may feel overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, or unsure of what you need for yourself. I enjoy working with adults who struggle with people pleasing, setting boundaries, fear of rejection, relationship patterns, or burnout. Maybe you find yourself overthinking interactions, feeling responsible for others’ emotions, or saying yes when you really want to say no. You may understand that you need boundaries but find it difficult to maintain them when guilt, conflict, or fear of losing a relationship gets in the way. I’m especially interested in helping people navigate the lasting effects of relational trauma and attachment experiences, as well as supporting neurodivergent individuals who may feel misunderstood or exhausted from trying to meet others’ expectations. You don’t have to know exactly what you need from therapy before you begin. We can work together to understand where these patterns come from, reconnect with what matters to you, and help you feel more confident showing up as yourself.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I may integrate CBT to help clients recognize how their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors influence one another. Together, we will identify patterns such as overthinking, self-criticism, or assuming responsibility for others’ feelings. We work on challenging unhelpful beliefs and practicing new ways of responding, so clients can feel more confident in their choices and reactions.
Motivational Interviewing
I may use motivational interviewing to help clients explore their own reasons for change without feeling pressured or judged. We make space for the parts of you that want something different and the parts that feel uncertain or afraid. This can be especially helpful when practicing boundaries, changing people-pleasing patterns, or making choices that better align with your values.
Somatic
I help clients notice how stress, anxiety, and past experiences show up in their bodies, whether through tension, feeling on edge, shutting down, or difficulty relaxing. We may use grounding, mindfulness, breath awareness, and other body-based resources to increase awareness and support regulation. This helps clients recognize their internal cues and respond to their needs with greater compassion.
Trauma-Informed Care
I recognize that our past experiences can shape how we see ourselves, navigate relationships, and respond to stress. My approach prioritizes emotional safety, trust, and collaboration while helping you understand patterns that may have developed as ways of protecting yourself. We’ll work at a pace that feels manageable, building on your strengths and exploring new ways to respond to triggers and feel more connected to yourself. When appropriate, I may also incorporate EMDR to support the processing of distressing experiences.
