Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first two sessions, the focus is on building rapport and getting to know each other. This means I’ll invite you to share what brings you to therapy, what your goals are, and any past experiences you’ve had with counseling. I’ll also ask about your strengths, values, and cultural background so we can shape the work in a way that feels authentic and supportive to you. During this time, you can also ask me questions and get a sense of my style to make sure the space feels safe and comfortable. Together, we’ll start identifying the main areas you’d like to work on and set some initial goals, while moving at a pace that feels right for you. These sessions are about creating trust and laying the foundation for the healing process ahead.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

What stands out about my therapeutic approach is that I create a space where people feel truly seen, respected, and safe to be themselves. I meet clients where they are, honoring their cultural background, lived experiences, and personal strengths. My style is warm, collaborative, and grounded in building trust, so therapy feels less like a clinical process and more like a supportive relationship. I focus on helping clients connect to the strengths they already carry within themselves, while offering practical tools they can use in daily life. I bring creativity, mindfulness, and cultural awareness into the work, which allows me to adapt my approach so it resonates with each individual. At the core, my goal is to help people feel empowered, balanced, and connected as they move through challenges and toward healing.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I have been providing services within marginalized communities for over 20 years. The make up of this community has primarily been BIPOC. I find working within my community helps to reach those who would not normally reach out for talk therapy as a way to identify solutions. I have also found that communities of color still stigmatize therapy because historically it was identified as a place that “crazy people” access. I have been working hard to dismantle that belief and it’s working.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in a way that’s flexible and culturally aware. Rather than applying the full model, I use mini parts of CBT to help clients identify the strengths they’ve used in the past and show them how to bring those strengths into daily practice to reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety, or PTSD. I also incorporate mindfulness and grounding techniques to help clients stay present and manage overwhelming thoughts or emotions. This combination allows people to recognize unhelpful thought patterns, lean on their cultural and personal resilience, and practice strategies that support their healing and overall well-being.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I incorporate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) techniques, especially the skills of mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. I use DBT in a practical way that helps clients learn how to manage overwhelming emotions, build healthier coping strategies, and improve communication in their relationships. This approach guides participants through grounding and mindfulness exercises to bring awareness to the present moment, or introduce distress tolerance skills they can use during high-stress situations. By focusing on skill-building, clients gain tools they can practice daily to reduce symptoms, increase emotional balance, and strengthen resilience.

Motivational Interviewing

I use Motivational Interviewing (MI) as a collaborative and client-centered approach to help people explore their own motivation for change. By asking open-ended questions, reflecting, and affirming their strengths, I support clients in identifying their goals and building confidence in their ability to make positive changes. This helps them feel empowered and take ownership of their healing process.

Mind-body approach

I use a mind-body approach to help clients understand the connection between their physical experiences and emotional well-being. This includes practices like mindfulness, breathwork, grounding, and gentle movement, which help release stress stored in the body, regulate the nervous system, and bring clients back into balance. By integrating both the mind and body in therapy, clients build resilience and learn holistic ways to manage symptoms of anxiety, depression, and trauma.

Grief Therapy

I provide grief therapy that supports clients through each stage of grief by using therapeutic approaches tailored to what they are experiencing. Whether it’s denial, anger, bargaining, depression, or acceptance, I help clients identify and process their emotions while honoring their unique grieving process. I integrate tools such as CBT for managing overwhelming thoughts, DBT for coping with intense emotions, and mindfulness and grounding practices to stay present. This approach allows clients to move through grief with compassion, resilience, and healthier ways of coping.
