Pooja Amatya
I’m so glad you’re here! I'm a clinical psychologist with over a decade of experience supporting adults through anxiety, depression, grief, health issues, identity concerns, self-doubt, and major life transitions. Much of my work is with people who are used to being the person everyone else relies on and who are tired of doing it alone.
I have been told that I am a good listener, easy to talk to, and understanding as a therapist.
My style is warm, collaborative, supportive, and personalized to your unique journey and identity.
First session
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing and how therapy can help. It is common to feel some anxiety or vulnerability when taking the first step with a new therapist which I strive to be understanding about. When you're ready to leave the stress and discomfort you are feeling behind, I'm prepared to help you. Schedule our first session and get on the road to feeling better today.
Strengths
Coming from a family of medical professionals, health and wellness is an important value for me. I've also written a book "Inner Child: A Brief, Illustrated Self-Compassion Meditation." Outside of sessions, I'm usually with my toddler and black Lab or on a yoga mat.
Ideal clients
I work closely with young women navigating identity, family expectations, and the pressure to hold it all together. As the daughter of Nepalese immigrants, I understand what it's like to move between cultural expectations and your own sense of self and am personally familiar with Southeast Asian cultural factors. I work with adults of all demographics and walks of life in California.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
We’ll use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to recognize how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other. We’ll then use that knowledge to change the thinking patterns and behaviors decreasing your satisfaction, which will help you lead a more fulfilling life.
Interpersonal
We will look at how the way you relate to others is related to symptoms and issues and aim for more fulfilling relationships.
Psychodynamic
We may explore the past as needed and how it contributes to the way you understand situations and relate to others and use this awareness to improve present situations and relationships.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
We will use techniques to increase mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.
