Hi, I'm Joseph Chung, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). I work with adults and couples navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, and life transitions. My approach is warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth. I believe therapy should be a space where you feel heard, understood, and comfortable being yourself.

Together, we'll explore what's holding you back, build on your strengths, and work toward meaningful changes in your life.

Together, we'll explore what's holding you back, build on your strengths, and work toward meaningful changes in your life.

First session

Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and explore what brings you to therapy. I'll take time to understand your experiences, current challenges, and what you hope to accomplish. There's no pressure to share everything right away. We'll move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Whether we're working individually, as a couple, or as a family, my goal is to create a welcoming, nonjudgmental space where everyone feels heard and respected. Together, we'll begin identifying goals and discussing how therapy can best support your needs.

Strengths

I bring a calm, empathetic, and nonjudgmental approach to therapy. I believe in meeting clients where they are while also helping them challenge unhelpful thoughts and patterns. My style is conversational and collaborative, so sessions feel natural rather than overly formal. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based approaches. I balance listening and emotional support with practical strategies that clients can apply in everyday life. My goal is to help you feel understood while also making meaningful progress toward your goals.

Ideal clients

I work with adolescents, adults, couples, and families who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, or major life changes. You might feel overwhelmed, stuck, misunderstood, or unsure of how to move forward. Whether you're looking to better understand yourself, improve communication, build confidence, or develop healthier coping skills, I'm here to support you. You don't need to have everything figured out before starting therapy. All I ask is that you're open to exploring your experiences and taking steps toward positive change at your own pace.

Origin story

I've always been interested in understanding people, their experiences, and what shapes the way they see themselves and the world. I became a therapist because I wanted to help people feel less alone in their struggles and recognize that change is possible. I believe everyone deserves to have someone who listens without judgment, understands their perspective, and supports them through difficult moments. Seeing clients gain confidence, develop healthier relationships, and make meaningful progress is what makes this work rewarding to me.

Ongoing work together

As we continue working together, our sessions will focus on understanding your challenges, exploring patterns, and building skills to help you navigate everyday life. We'll check in on your progress, celebrate small victories, and work through any setbacks along the way. I believe therapy is a collaborative process, so we'll regularly revisit your goals and adjust our approach based on what works best for you. Progress can look different for everyone, whether it's feeling more confident, managing emotions, improving relationships, or developing healthier ways of coping. My goal is to help you build lasting changes that extend beyond our sessions.

Treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I believe everyone deserves to feel heard, understood, and accepted without judgment. I use a person-centered approach by creating a safe and supportive space where you can openly explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences at your own pace. Rather than telling you what to do, I work collaboratively with you to better understand yourself, recognize your strengths, and find solutions that feel right for you. My goal is to help you build self-confidence, develop greater self-awareness, and make meaningful changes while respecting your values and individual experiences.
