Empowering

I am a compassionate and dedicated Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for individuals seeking to enhance their mental well-being and alleviate symptoms of distress.

My career as a paramedic allows me as a therapist to easily identify the complexities and challenges frontline workers regularly encounter.

Holding a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and bringing years of experience in the medical field (EMS), I have gained a deep understanding of the complex challenges individuals encounter in both their professional and personal lives.

First session

I believe in tailoring therapy to meet the unique needs and goals of each client, fostering a collaborative and empowering therapeutic relationship.

Strengths

My career as a paramedic allows me as a therapist to easily identify the complexities and challenges frontline workers regularly encounter. I understand and emphasize by personally identifying with the numerous, and multi-facet issues and job stressors from a 'street view' perspective. I most definitely-'get it.'

Ideal clients

I primarily work with adults who are active or retired first responders/frontline healthcare providers including correction officers, nurses, 911 dispatch etc.

Treatment methods

Trauma Informed Care

CBT treatment focuses on helping people discover and challenge both harmful and unhealthy thinking patterns that ultimately affect their emotions and behaviors. It helps you become more aware of inaccurate thought patterns to view challenging situations more clearly and respond to them more effectively. CBT is an effective tool to help anyone learn to manage stressful life situations better, and it can be used alone or together with other therapies.

EMDR

EMDR is a form of therapy that helps people heal from trauma and other distressful life events or experiences. EMDR focuses on the individual's present concerns, symptoms or distress by using eye movement and different types of bilateral stimulation. This dual stimulation activates the brain's ability to resolve past experiences, resulting in decreased present symptoms.

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) specifically designed to help people overcome the effects of traumatic experiences, particularly those related to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It was originally developed for survivors of sexual assault but has since been adapted to treat a wide range of trauma, including military combat, natural disasters, and other forms of interpersonal violence.

“I’ve had two therapists before, but she is the first who truly makes me feel heard. Dawn gives me practical tools to better understand my thoughts—both what I’m thinking and why. I really appreciate her therapy style; she’s supportive and completely non-judgmental.“
