Amy Nolan
I am passionate about helping individuals deepen their self-awareness, overcome limiting patterns, and create a more meaningful and fulfilling life. With extensive experience in counseling, private practice ownership, clinical supervision, and counselor training, I bring a holistic, person-centered, and creative approach to therapy. I believe meaningful change begins with understanding ourselves. Together, we will explore your experiences, emotions, relationships, and patterns to uncover new perspectives and opportunities for growth.
I believe people are beautifully complex, and meaningful growth requires more than a one-size-fits-all approach.
My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to your individual needs. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental space grounded in trust, respect, and open communication, where therapy feels like a natural conversation. My goal is to help you reconnect with yourself, discover your potential, and develop the awareness and tools to create lasting, meaningful change. I look forward to being part of your journey toward greater well-being and happiness.
First session
Your first session with me will be relaxed, welcoming, and conversational. It's an opportunity for us to get to know one another, explore what brings you to therapy, and begin building a comfortable foundation for our work together. There is no pressure to share anything before you feel ready. I'll ask thoughtful questions about your experiences and background to better understand where you've been, where you are now, and where you hope to go. Most importantly, we'll begin at your pace, creating a space where you feel heard, understood, and supported.
Strengths
Working with me feels like having a natural, meaningful conversation, guided by thoughtful therapeutic techniques and evidence-informed approaches tailored to your needs. I believe people are beautifully complex, and meaningful growth requires more than a one-size-fits-all approach. I draw upon a variety of therapeutic modalities to meet you where you are, explore your unique experiences, and help you discover new perspectives. My goal is to make therapy feel comfortable, collaborative, and purposeful while creating opportunities for deeper self-understanding and lasting change.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who is ready to embrace change, explore all aspects of themselves, and discover new possibilities for growth. Someone who is open to looking beyond the surface, challenging old patterns, and gaining a deeper understanding of who they are. I bring genuine passion, compassion, and commitment to helping you navigate that journey and create a happier, healthier, and more fulfilling life.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is effective because it helps people understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors—and how these patterns influence everyday life. Rather than simply addressing symptoms, CBT provides practical tools to identify unhelpful thinking patterns, challenge limiting beliefs, and develop healthier ways of responding to life's challenges.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an effective therapeutic approach because it helps individuals understand and heal the different parts of themselves that influence their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Rather than viewing conflicting feelings or behaviors as problems to eliminate, IFS explores what these parts are trying to communicate and what experiences may be driving them. Through developing curiosity, compassion, and understanding toward these internal parts, clients can begin to identify emotional wounds, release protective patterns, and reduce inner conflict. IFS encourages individuals to connect with their core Self—the part of them associated with calmness, confidence, clarity, and compassion.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Mindfulness-based therapy is effective because it teaches individuals to become more aware of their thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations without immediately judging, avoiding, or reacting to them. By developing present-moment awareness, clients learn to recognize emotional triggers, interrupt automatic responses, and create space to make more intentional choices.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is effective because it helps individuals develop psychological flexibility—the ability to navigate difficult thoughts, emotions, and experiences without allowing them to dictate their lives. Rather than trying to eliminate uncomfortable feelings, ACT teaches clients to acknowledge and accept their internal experiences while focusing on what truly matters to them.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an effective, evidence-based therapy designed to help individuals process and heal from distressing or traumatic experiences. Sometimes, difficult experiences remain emotionally unresolved, continuing to influence thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in the present. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements or tapping, while recalling aspects of distressing memories to support the brain's natural information-processing system. Through this process, clients can work toward reducing the emotional intensity associated with painful memories, changing negative beliefs, and developing healthier perspectives about themselves and their experiences.
