(he/him)
Hi! My name is Ali Akhtar, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based out of Los Angeles, California. I specialize in anxiety, depression, life transitions, multigenerational trauma, self-esteem, and men's issues. As a clinician I am dedicated to working through past traumas, and building towards a healthier baseline. I have been practicing as a clinician for over ten years with adults, teenagers and children.
In our first session, we'll begin with brief introductions to get to know each other. Then, we'll explore the specific challenges you're experiencing, which will allow me to develop a personalized plan tailored to your needs. This session sets the foundation for our work together and helps us establish a clear path forward.
My therapeutic approach is characterized by compassion and cultural sensitivity, emphasizing the importance of understanding each individual's unique background. I draw from my ongoing willingness to learn, my academic training, my experience as a parent, and my role as a mental health professional to create a supportive and adaptable environment. This holistic perspective allows me to connect with clients meaningfully and fosters meaningful progress in therapy.
I am best positioned to serve young adults, adults, and elders as one transitions through different stages in life. I come from a diverse background and recognize therapy and mental health can be overwhelming. I am here to help overcome any obstacles one might have and help achieve goals one might have.

Multicultural
Multicultural therapy aims to create a culturally responsive and inclusive therapeutic environment, where clients feel safe and valued.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT aims to help individuals identify and modify negative or unrealistic thoughts and beliefs, which in turn can lead to more positive emotions and behaviors. It's a pretty hands-on, practical approach to therapy, and often involves homework assignments, role-playing, and other techniques to help clients learn and practice new skills.
Interpersonal
Interpersonal therapy, or IPT, is a type of therapy that focuses on a person's relationships with others and how those relationships impact their mental health. The idea is that our relationships with other people can have a big impact on how we feel, and that by improving our communication and relationships, we can also improve our mental health.
