Maura Mendes-Oxford
Hello! I'm a licensed independent clinical social worker. I received my Master's from the University of Maryland, Baltimore and have been practicing therapy for the last 5 years. I bring a client-centered approach to my work and help young adults struggling with anxiety, life transitions, and identity formation.
As a Cape Verdean immigrant, I bring a culturally attuned and relational approach to therapy, with an understanding of the complexities of identity, family dynamics, and navigating multiple worlds.
I am committed to making a positive impact through compassionate, evidence-based practices and look forward to supporting others on their healing journey. First session
During the first session with clients, I take some time to get to know them, as well as what brings them in. I review confidentiality, talk about what their previous experience in therapy has been like, and what has worked well for them. I collaborate with clients on what goals they would like to prioritize in therapy together.
Strengths
My collective strengths as a provider contribute to my ability to make a meaningful impact on individuals through compassionate and effective mental health care. I lead in a client-centered and strength-based approach, provide resource management, and hold a non-judgmental and open safe space.
Ideal clients
Although I have experience working with a variety of populations, my passion is working with young adults (18-30s) - whether that be an anxious college student balancing school and responsibilities, recent graduates exploring their identity, or young professionals navigating career transitions and work-life balance. In my time working as a therapist, the biggest factor I have noticed that leads to success, is when client's are open and motivated to make changes.
