Hi, I am Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in California. I have been practicing since 2006 and have experience in both intense community mental health and private practice. I help individuals who experience issues with trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and self-worth. I use evidence-based practices, particularly Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and EMDR, then tailor these approaches to suit your unique needs to help you face the future with new coping strategies and with a stronger sense of self.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, and then dive into and identify the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I have over 18 years of experience in supporting adults in crisis, transitions and major life changes. I've developed an appreciation for evidenced based practices that points us in the direction of identifying possible root causes of your challenge and creating a tailored plan that leads to measurable progress. I am vested in helping you heal the past, face your now and achieve the goals of your tomorrow.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I love working with individuals who have experienced past or current challenges or traumatic life events and are eager and curious about their journey for self-discovery and change. My clients may often feel anxious, overwhelmed and stuck and may need some extra support to help navigate through life's challenges to help face the future with new coping tools and with a stronger sense of self.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize CBT to as a tool to support and challenge individuals in increasing awareness and reframing of possible inaccurate or negative thinking patterns so they can view challenging situations more clearly and respond to them in more effective ways.

EMDR

I have been practicing EMDR for over 10 years. Because your brain stores trauma memories in a way that may challenge healthy healing, EMDR is used to help with reducing symptoms of trauma or distress by utilizing eye movement, desensitization and reprocessing to assist how the traumatic memories are stored in the brain, enabling people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences.

I started going to Julie to help with the loss of my father and figuring out my relationship with my mother. She helped me become a better person by telling me things I may not have wanted to hear but needed to hear! She is a wonderful person and would highly recommend :)

I felt like her energy was off. She seemed cold/dismissive/irritated. I told her I was trying to find the best therapist fit. She seemed to interpret my discernment as resistance. There seemed to be a lack of empathy in her tone and facial expressions. She seemed to interpret my functional impairment as availability, my discernment as difficulty, and my care-seeking as avoidance. I felt dismissed, judged and worse after this session.

Talking with Julie was refreshing. Compared to the past I feel she has knowledge to help get me to a better place mentally. I look forward to our next sessions.
