Hi! I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in California. I received my Master's degree from California State University, Fresno, and my Doctorate from Walden University in Minnesota. With 18 years of experience in the field, I specialize in helping individuals navigate their emotional and relational challenges to lead more fulfilling lives. My approach is compassionate and collaborative, focusing on empowering my clients with the tools they need to achieve their personal and interpersonal goals.
In our therapy sessions, you can expect a compassionate and supportive environment where you feel comfortable expressing yourself. I strive to create a relaxed, conversational pace that allows us to explore your thoughts and feelings without pressure.
As a therapist, one of my greatest strengths is my ability to create a welcoming and comfortable environment, allowing you to feel at ease, almost as if we’ve known each other for a long time. I believe that building a strong therapeutic relationship is essential for effective therapy, and I strive to foster trust and openness from the very first session.
Many of my clients are motivated for change but feel stuck in cycles of overthinking, emotional reactivity, self-doubt, or unresolved pain from the past. They may want help managing daily stress, improving communication, healing from difficult experiences, or learning how to respond to life in a calmer and more intentional way. I am best positioned to serve adults who are dealing with anxiety, depression, stress, and anger. Many of the clients I work well with are thoughtful, hard-working people who may appear to be functioning on the outside, but internally feel overwhelmed, stuck, emotionally exhausted, or disconnected from themselves and others.

In my practice, I use the Unified Protocol for Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders because it allows us to focus on the common patterns underlying various emotional challenges, such as anxiety, depression, and OCD. The UP is particularly helpful if you experience multiple issues at once because it addresses the shared processes that contribute to these disorders, like emotional dysregulation, avoidance, and negative thought patterns. First, we'll start with a comprehensive assessment to understand your specific emotional challenges and identify patterns in how you react to emotions and stress. Together, we’ll develop a case formulation that maps out how these patterns are affecting different areas of your life. Why This Approach? The Unified Protocol is versatile and flexible, allowing us to target multiple issues simultaneously. It’s evidence-based, meaning research supports its effectiveness across various emotional disorders. By focusing on the underlying processes rather than just symptoms, we can work towards sustainable, long-term change. My goal is to support you in developing skills that empower you to manage your emotions and enhance your overall well-being, helping you lead a more fulfilling life.

Dr McGinnis is truly a breath of fresh air. Today was our first meeting and I felt like a weight has been somewhat lifted and I’m so grateful that found him. Looking forward to future sessions and getting better mentally.

Mr. McGinnis seems to care about who he's talking to. You feel comfortable expressing your feelings with him. He gives you your time to talk. He's encouraging and up beat. He has suggestions for helping cope with whatever your challenges are.

Good guy. Genuinely wants to help. Knowledgeable. Empathetic. I'm glad I stuck with him despite my tendency to jump ship too quickly sometimes. This time I stuck it out and it's been working out pretty nicely. I mean I still have to do the work, but he's good in directing and helping me correct course when I need to. I'd recommend working with him if you are feeling called to
