My name is RaShun Cowan, MS, LPC. I am a Mobile, Alabama native and Houston, Texas resident. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I have worked in the mental health field for the past ten years.

I help individuals struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders, depression, anxiety, trauma (PTSD), relationship conflict, communication, boundary setting and more.

A graduate of Alabama State University and Walden University, I have cultivated a wealth of knowledge that I continue to harvest daily, to help individuals find the best version of themselves. I help individuals struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders, depression, anxiety, trauma (PTSD), relationship conflict, communication, boundary setting and more. Personally, I am a Christian, husband, and a father. I practice the communication, patience, and resiliency skills that I help others to cultivate in themselves. There are so many people that don't quite understand the power that we each have in us to pull through the toughest of times. It is my passion and duty to help people build on their strengths, find confidence in themselves, and work towards sustaining a healthy way to cope with this thing called life.

First session

In your first session, expect a warm and welcoming atmosphere where you can freely express yourself without fear of judgment. We will begin by discussing your goals and what you hope to achieve through therapy. Together, we will create a personalized plan to help you navigate challenges and work towards a happier, more fulfilling life. Trust in the process and know that I am here to support and guide you every step of the way. Your journey to healing and growth starts now.

Strengths

I strive to create a safe and supportive therapeutic environment where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in order to make positive changes and improve their overall well-being.

Ideal clients

I love working with individuals and couples that are open minded and ready for change. Therapy isn't always a fun and joyful experience in the beginning, but if you trust the process, you'll experience growth, insight, and awareness that can add you on your journey to healing.

Treatment methods

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a therapeutic approach that views individuals as having different parts within themselves, each with its own thoughts, feelings, and beliefs. In therapy, I help the individual identify and communicate with these different parts to understand their needs and concerns. Through this process, individuals can develop a greater sense of self-awareness, compassion, and integration of their internal conflicts to promote healing and growth. IFS can be particularly effective in addressing deeper emotional issues and trauma by helping individuals understand and work through the underlying causes of their distress.

Mr. Cowan has provided a lot of insight into who I want to be as a person and what things/behaviors I allow that keep me from achieving that. He’s very passionate about what he does, and he encourages me to think outside the box. He also holds me accountable in a very gentle way that helps guide me to become a better version of me.

RaShun is a phenomenal therapist for many reasons. That being said, what stands out is the way in which he helps walk me through the spaghetti mess of thoughts that I have tangled in my head and take a step back from that entanglement. He helps me look at the bigger picture and does so with warmth, respect, and honesty, which is key in finding the purpose behind what I'm going through. Would highly recommend RaShun, he's been a massive blessing and help in my life.
