About me

Hi there. Thanks for stopping by. I’m Chynna. In my practice I specialize in supporting parents and partners of all genders navigate towards a version of parenthood that feels good, from before day one and beyond. My work with clients is informed by my undergraduate degree in Gender Studies with a concentration in Women’s Reproductive Health, as well as a graduate degree in Counseling Psychology. Your sessions would benefit from my extensive post-graduate trainings in: Internal Family Systems, Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Perinatal Mood Disorders (PSI), and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing. Drawing upon these modalities I utilize an eclectic blend of primarily somatic, systemic, attachment-curious, and psychodynamic informed approaches to ground and grow what is already working into what works well so the clients whom I serve can thrive.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

A first session with me will include reviewing intake documentation and exploring the thoughts and feelings that led you to seek support. We'll discuss your strengths, your past experiences with therapy, and where you'd like to go next in your growth. Most importantly we'll share space in our first session with one another to see if we're a good fit.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Beyond my lived experience and perinatal concentration, over the last seven years of clinical work I’ve had the honor of supporting families of incarceration deepen reconnection, school aged children in expanding their social emotional confidence, and offering acute therapeutic care to unhoused transitional aged youth. Being able draw upon these experiences to support folks from all parts of life realize their agency during hard times is where I thrive clinically. Finding just where to start is my favorite part of the work I get to do with a new client. If you would like me to join you on your path to wellness, feel free to reach out to me.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My ideal client is someone navigating life's transitions. Someone who may look hyper-capable (researching, optimizing, "handling it") or visibly unraveling (weepy, reactive, not herself), both of which guard the same exiled part: her fear of disappearing, her ungrieved losses, and often older attachment wounds around needing help or becoming invisible. My ideal client may feel worn by defenses that protect unfelt feelings carried largely alone. Our core therapeutic work isn't symptom management but deepening connections to others and to her Self to lead her toward integrating who she's becoming.

My treatment methods

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Each of us has parts. The parts we show, the parts we avoid or obscure. Some parts protect us while other parts hold us back from experiencing ourselves and others deeply. Working to unblend these pieces and center the true self within is much of the work I encourage in session.

Somatic

We often feel much more than our thinking parts can process. Slowing down to listen to what the body is telling us is a vital piece to living authentically. Somatic tools in session can be a great guide for where to lean in or out.

Grief Therapy

Grieving is a huge part of parenthood be it grieving the hope of an unrealized pregnancy, grieving our pre-parental freedoms, or grieving the last stage of our little’s growth. Grief is evidence of both love and loss. Integrating a more expansive view of ways to honor grieving is a huge part of my work with perinatal folks and families.

Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP)

All folks have an inherent capacity to heal that is revealed when their stories are seen and understood. Sometimes our well-crafted defenses to protect us from emotional pain prevent us from realizing the change towards healing we truly desire. A supportive and challenging therapeutic relationship can be a space to grow insight and enhance one’s ability to trust.

EMDR

Some experiences are more difficult to process than others. EMDR therapy can be a helpful way to shift long held response patterns to difficult memories. As an EMDRIA educated therapist I may integrate parts and somatic work with EMDR therapeutic interventions to support you towards a more comprehensive understanding of your stuck memories.

Although I was not sure about embarking on this journey, Chynna has given me a pathway to explore positive therapy. I'm looking forward to our next meeting.

Chynna was warm and welcoming! I felt like I was meeting someone who understood my struggle and I could tell anything to without being scared. Chynna explained things in terms that I could understand. I didn't feel shame for how I was feeling. It was like speaking to an older sister or auntie. I'm looking forward to my next session.
