Jesse Ngu
My name is Jesse, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in California with a Master’s degree from Columbia University School of Social Work and a Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University. I have worked in the mental health field since 2008, supporting clients across a range of ages and concerns.
I regularly review progress with my clients and help identify any barriers that may be hindering their growth.
My approach integrates psychodynamic exploration with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), helping clients reflect on how childhood experiences and family dynamics shape current patterns while also identifying and reshaping unhelpful thoughts and behaviors for practical change. I believe thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are interconnected, and by bringing unconscious patterns into awareness and practicing new cognitive, mindfulness, and behavioral strategies, clients can experience meaningful relief and growth.
First session
In the initial session we’ll review your reason for seeking therapy, relevant personal and medical history, and current functioning across work, relationships, and daily life. I’ll assess presenting symptoms, risk factors, and treatment goals, explain my approach, and collaboratively outline a focused plan and next steps.
Strengths
I prioritize open communication and strive to maintain an honest, supportive therapeutic relationship. I regularly review progress with my clients and help identify any barriers that may be hindering their growth. I strongly believe that with consistent support and constructive feedback, personal growth and meaningful change are possible.
Ideal clients
I work primarily with young adults facing major life transitions who often feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure about the future. My clients tend to be motivated for change but may lack the coping tools they need; together we build skills, clarity, and confidence to face transitions more effectively. I have extensive experience supporting people through mood disorders, anxiety, relationship challenges, and a range of life stressors.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
My approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I believe that our thoughts and emotions are interconnected, and by identifying and reshaping negative thought patterns, we can experience emotional relief and improved well-being.
Psychodynamic
Through psychodynamic exploration, I work with clients to gently uncover and process how childhood experiences, family dynamics, and life events have shaped their patterns, so they can heal and move forward.
