My practice has centered around supporting parents, children and individuals that have struggle with depression, anxiety, and anger management challenges develop effective strategies that enable them to enjoy more out of life and find hope. During the school year, I also work full time as a school social worker in an elementary school. Prior to working in the schools, I worked with families providing crisis and mental health support through a program called Wraparound. I thoroughly enjoy working and supporting all ages and my many years of practice have helped shape my effectiveness with creating/supporting lasting change with the people I work with.

First session

In our first session, we will explore what has brought you to counseling and discuss the current challenges you are facing. I will explain my treatment methods and what you can expect in future sessions, along with begin the conversation about what your short term and long term goals are for therapy.

Strengths

I am a good listener and am easy to talk to. I am highly organized and have very good follow through on what I say I will do or provide. I will listen to you with an open-mind and work with you as a team approach going at your own pace, not pushing you beyond what you are ready to face. You steer the ship, so to speak, and I will provide you with the tools you need to direct yourself in the right direction.

Ideal clients

My ideal clients would be open to exploring new strategies to support their mental health needs along with a willingness to share their fears, failures, and hopes for the future. I use a strength-based approach to look at how an individual's strengths can be use to create effective strategies to meet their goals. I go at the client's pace and do not push them farther than what they feel they are ready to go.

Treatment methods

Strength-Based

Exploring and identifying our strengths can help us use these qualities to create strategies to reach our goals and develop healthier views of ourselves and our potential. We can create an atmosphere of positivity that will help continue momentum of growth and progress throughout this journey of healing.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I will be using cognitive behavioral therapy to explore negative self-talk that maybe hindering your ability to achieve your goals and allow you to live life with peace and satisfaction. While exploring these negative thoughts, we will look at changing our mindset to allow new and more positive thoughts to take their place. In addition, exploring coping skills that are effective in reducing the intensity, duration and number of episodes of strong emotions such as sadness, fear, and anger.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Through the use of focusing on the here and now by using mindfulness practice in order to reduce the intensity, duration and number of episodes of strong emotions (sadness, fear, and anger). This would also include learning other coping strategies that could help you think clearer and make positive choices when faced with situations that bring on strong emotions.
