About me

I'm a licensed clinical social worker with many years of experience helping adults deal with a variety of issues, including relationship problems, divorce adjustment, depression, anxiety, identity, substance abuse and/or trauma. In our work together, you will feel safe and secure as we move slowly and gently through the concerns that brought you in. Whether the first time dealing with an issue or an old issue that keeps showing up, I will help you to begin to identify and express your feelings about your experiences. It's a gift you deserve — one we all deserve. The pathway to healing is open to you, and I will do my best to help you get there.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Our first session is about getting to know you — what brings you to therapy now, what you've tried before, and especially your hopes for how therapy can help. I'll also encourage you to ask me anything you'd like about my practice and experience, and I'll share some of my training and how it has shaped me as a therapist. Before we finish, I'll offer a few simple practices you can use on your own between sessions to support your well-being. By the end of that first meeting, you'll have a clear sense of our plan and how we'll work together moving forward.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Most of the time, I will be listening supportively and making sure our sessions are safe, comfortable and meaningful for you. However, I communicate a lot during sessions, helping to build a helpful therapy relationship. I know that listening, asking gentle questions, and helping clients identify, express and resolve feelings is the path to healing. There is more to the healing process, but respect, kindness and compassion go a long way to help us feel healthy, My training even included studying my own family system — profound and humbling work. Along the way I've also been a university teacher, workshop leader, retreat leader, and writer. I will add my graduate school students nominated me for a teaching award, something which makes me very proud. I'm a lifelong learner, and I'll encourage you to become one too — beginning with understanding how your own life experiences have shaped who you are today.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My ideal clients are adults dealing with some serious issue, such as trauma, depression, panic attacks, relationship problems or feeling stuck in their lives. I am especially dedicated to supporting older adults who have kept their experience of early childhood or adolescent sexual abuse secret for decades. I have a lot of compassion for these clients and understand the fear and shame that has encouraged this secrecy. I know what a relief it can be to finally be able to take a deep breath, identify and express the feelings associated with this abuse, and begin the healing process. It's a privilege to me to be a part of this healing experience.

My treatment methods

EMDR

This method uses a structured approach to heal specific traumatic memories and/or experiences. Safety and security are important here too, but this is a more direct therapeutic method.
