My personal experience has taught me that change can be stressful and uncomfortable and that there are some things in life that we do not have control over. My belief that people are resilient and can navigate through the hard times in life with support is what drew me to my area of focus. It has also deepened my passion for the counseling process. I have worked in several settings, such as hospitals, mental health agencies, and substance abuse clinics, which has helped shape my practice by enhancing my ability to understand my clients’ needs in regard to progress in treatment. I am also trained in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, which has enhanced my ability to recognize symptoms of trauma and understand how they may impact a client and act as an obstacle that keeps them from moving forward.
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
My intake process begins with a free 15-minute phone consultation. If the client thinks that I am a good fit and wants to go forward with the counseling process, an intake is scheduled. During the intake, clients receive a packet that includes a questionnaire, GAD-7, PHQ-9, consent forms, and a PTSD checklist to assess for trauma. Progress occurs when the client becomes self-aware and utilizes skills taught in session. Progress is reviewed every three months and consists of re-administering all assessments that were given at the beginning of treatment. I assign homework depending on the client. Some interventions and activities are conducted in session. I like working with adult clients who suffer from depression, anxiety, and interpersonal conflict.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
My greatest strength as a provider is my knowledge, life and professional experience, and my authenticity that allows others to be comfortable with being themselves.
