I received my Masters from Texas A&M University - San Antonio. We all love a good underdog story! Why though? Because we are relating to those low points in our lives where we were the "underdog" and to see them overcoming their struggles and challenges gives us hope and inspiration! I love working with people who are ready to make a positive change in their lives! There's nothing more exciting than personal transformation through determined, positive change! See you soon! Hola! Hello! I bring 16 years of mental health experience along for your sessions. I consider myself a generalist and I'm happy to help you with any need or concern that you might have. Some of the areas where I have the most experience are depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and grief and loss. I work with almost all age groups however, I typically do not work with persons under the age of 18. If you are a minor, please consult with me before scheduling an intake and I will consider your need and my areas of expertise and help you determine our next steps. I am also no longer able to accommodate couples therapy. If you are seeking a couples therapy session I will be happy to assist you with a referral. I have spent the majority of my career working in a University setting and have helped many college-age adults make meaningful changes. I have also worked in behavioral health clinics and have experience working with clients that have been legally referred to therapy.

“Everyone is going through something and that shapes who they are.” I take the time to understand the client through compassion. I earned a Master of Education Degree in School Counseling from Dallas Baptist University. I have over 20 years of experience in education as a teacher, school counselor, director of counseling and post-secondary readiness. My extensive knowledge and experience in Pk-12 counseling have shaped my approach to clients. Remember that therapy is a collaborative process, and your active engagement and commitment play a significant role in their progress. It's also important to note that therapy's timeline varies for each individual; some people might experience significant changes relatively quickly, while others might require longer-term support. The therapeutic journey is a personal one, and I work with my clients to create a tailored approach that suits their needs and goals.

Acknowledgement of pain, a counterintuitive process, is the secret sauce of ordering our lives into functional, fun, and life-affirming behaviors. After many years of exploring a variety of jobs I finally began to focus on assisting others in this adventure called "life ." As an adult. I began serving through Christian ministry and then realized I was even more fulfilled in working more specifically in the wider field of mental health. After getting both master's and a doctoral degree in mental health, I worked in clinical settings, counseling centers, crisis centers, my own private practice , and university settings. While managing my own counseling center, I also served several years teaching graduate students in the areas of counseling and psychology. My joy comes from helping others regain control of life when cognitions, emotions, and behaviors have caused distress. We do not always understand the "why" of life experiences, however we can gain mastery of our thinking, feeling, and doing and continue to enhance functioning and happiness.

I specialize in brief collaborative therapy where we look at current issues, how you cope, how you learned the coping skills and alternatives solutions. We will look at your self-care including spirituality and how to improve your self care if needed. Weekly assignment tasks related to your short term goals will be agreed upon. We will work together to learn and understand where you are now and how the past has impacted you. Engaging in therapy can be anxiety provoking, exciting and freeing. If you are willing to work on our mutually agreed upon assignment between our counseling sessions, you will find we make progress. I worked in criminal justice prior to being licensed in Michigan where I grew up and studied. Upon moving to Chicagoland, I worked 10 years with a crisis response team and an employee assistance program. This is where I learned to develop skills to drill down into client issues and work with the client to reduce discomfort and improve coping skills. Our counseling sessions did not last beyond 6-8 meetings. I moved to Texas in 2003 and since then have continued to work on crisis teams and with military members/spouses on installations. My practice has been focused on supporting couples communications; life transitions including grief/loss, career transitions, parenting skills and integrating/applying client's spiritual practice into every day life. Clients describe me as safe to talk with about difficult topics; active and contributing to the dialog; creative in opening up behavioral and cognitive options.

I focus on supporting working professionals and college students who are struggling in their careers, education, or relationships due to anxiety or depression. Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Texas rather than a city like Dallas?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Texas from Houston to Austin! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Texas.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Career Counseling?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Career Counseling, is filtering therapists in Texas that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
