Hi! I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (GA) and an American Association for Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT) approved supervisor candidate. I received my Masters from Capella University in Minnesota and have been practicing for 6 years. I am currently pursuing a Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy. I help clients struggling with personal and professional stress and burnout become the best versions of themselves.
During the first therapy session, clients can expect a welcoming, respectful, and nonjudgmental environment where they can begin to feel comfortable sharing their concerns. I will explain the therapy process, discuss confidentiality and its limits, review necessary paperwork, and answer questions about what clients can expect from treatment. I will spend time learning about the client's current concerns, personal history, relationships, strengths, coping strategies, and goals for therapy. For military-affiliated clients, I may also explore how military service, deployment, reintegration, family responsibilities, or transitions between military and civilian life may be affecting the client or relationship. Clients will have the opportunity to identify what they would like to accomplish through therapy and to collaborate with the therapist to develop realistic and meaningful treatment goals. The first session is not about having all the answers or solving every problem immediately. Instead, it provides an opportunity to establish trust, understand the client's needs, and begin developing a therapeutic relationship. Clients should expect to be heard, respected, and involved in their treatment decisions. They are encouraged to ask questions, express concerns, and let the therapist know what feels comfortable or uncomfortable. Therapy is a collaborative process, and the pace of treatment will be adjusted to the client's individual needs and readiness for change.
I have an ability to connect and build a great rapport with my clients. I enjoy doing this by using humor, genuine curiosity, care, and respect of each individual. Through empathy, active listening, relaxation exercises, narrative and experiential therapies, clients are able to identify the root cause of their challenges.
The ideal therapeutic client may be a civilian or military-affiliated individual or couple seeking support for emotional, relational, or life-transition concerns. Common concerns may include anxiety, stress, communication difficulties, emotional regulation, relationship or marital conflict, trust issues, family challenges, adjustment to deployment or reintegration, career transitions, grief, and difficulty coping with significant life changes. The client may enter therapy feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, uncertain, disconnected, or unsure about how to create meaningful change. Some clients may recognize that their current coping strategies are no longer effective, while others may initially be hesitant about therapy or have difficulty identifying and expressing emotions. Military-affiliated clients may also have concerns related to military culture, deployment, separation from family, reintegration, changes in identity, or transitioning between military and civilian environments. Overall, the ideal client is willing to participate in the therapeutic process, open to self-reflection, and motivated to make meaningful changes. The therapeutic relationship emphasizes collaboration, respect, cultural humility, client strengths, and individualized treatment goals while recognizing that each client's civilian, military, family, and cultural experiences shape their therapeutic needs.

Through empathy, active listening, relaxation exercises, narrative and experiential therapies, clients are able to endure in their journey to achieve their goals. My personal and professional goal is building a great rapport with my clients. I enjoy doing this by using humor, genuine curiosity, care, and respect of each individual to create a peaceful therapeutic environment.
Level 1 and 2 trained. My approach focuses on helping couples manage conflict effectively rather than eliminating it altogether. I teach partners to recognize and reduce destructive communication patterns, including criticism, defensiveness, contempt, and stonewalling. Couples learn healthier alternatives such as using gentle start-ups, accepting influence from one another, taking responsibility, self-soothing during conflict, and engaging in productive problem-solving.

I want to say....This is the first time that I have ever opened up to anyone about my traumas and experiences during my deployment in Iraq and dealing with the deep, dark feelings long after coming home. I look forward to learning the coping skills necessary to live a long, happy and productive life. Thank You so much Juan!!
