Paige Whitten
I'm Paige Whitten, a Licensed Professional Counselor. Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of working in community mental health, completing assessments and evaluations, providing support in school settings, inpatient settings, and now working in private practice. This varied experience has given me a well-rounded perspective on mental health and a deep appreciation for meeting people where they are, whether that's navigating diagnoses, supporting young people through developmental challenges, or helping adults create meaningful change in their lives. I work primarily from a person-centered perspective, which means I believe you are the expert on your own life. My role is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings openly. I also incorporate EMDR therapy, particularly for clients working through trauma, anxiety, or distressing memories.
I bring my whole self to this work because I believe authentic connection is what makes therapy truly transformative.
First session
Our first session is really about getting to know each other. There's no pressure to dive into your deepest struggles right away if you're not ready. Here's what typically happens: We'll start by making sure you feel comfortable. I'll ask what brought you to therapy and what you're hoping to get out of our work together. You can share as much or as little as feels right. Some people come with a clear issue they want to address; others just know something feels off. Both are completely valid.
Strengths
One of my strengths is helping people feel comfortable, understood, and genuinely heard. I’m naturally curious about people and enjoy helping clients better understand themselves, including their personality, emotions, relationship patterns, and attachment styles. I also value self-awareness and use tools such as the Enneagram and MBTI when appropriate to help clients explore different aspects of themselves. I’m empathetic, nonjudgmental, and patient, and I enjoy creating a space where clients can openly talk through what they’re experiencing. I’m especially good at helping people connect the dots between their experiences, thoughts, emotions, and behaviors so they can gain insight and feel more confident making changes. My approach is warm, genuine, and collaborative. I will aim to help you tap into your own wisdom and strengths. I believe deeply in the power of the therapeutic relationship itself to facilitate healing and growth. I bring my whole self to this work because I believe authentic connection is what makes therapy truly transformative.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who is curious about themselves and wants to better understand their thoughts, emotions, relationships, and patterns. I enjoy working with clients who want to understand the “why” behind what they experience and gain greater self-awareness. They may be interested in exploring personality, attachment styles, past experiences, or recurring relationship patterns. Whether you are facing a specific challenge or simply feeling like you need someone to lsiten to how you feel, I'm here to walk alongside you in that journey. If you're looking for a therapist who will truly listen, accept you as you are, and support you in becoming who you want to be, I'd be honored to work with you.
Treatment methods
EMDR
I utilize EMDR when needed or requested, which can be helpful for traumatic or distressing experiences. EMDR is based on the idea that traumatic or disturbing memories can get "stuck" in your brain in an unprocessed state, causing you to re-experience the emotions, physical sensations, and beliefs from the original event. EMDR helps your brain reprocess these memories so they become less distressing and more integrated with your other life experiences.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
In our sessions together, I practice what's called person-centered or humanistic therapy. What this means in practical terms is that I see you as the expert on your own life and experiences. I create a space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings without judgment. I trust that you have the capacity to find your answers and direction when given the right support. I listen deeply and try to understand your world from your perspective, not mine. I'll aim to help you explore your experiences more fully and gain clarity about what you're feeling and what matters to you.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we identify patterns that may be contributing to anxiety, overthinking, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, or feeling stuck. Rather than simply trying to “think positively,” we work on understanding where these thoughts come from, challenging unhelpful thinking patterns, and developing healthier ways of responding. This may include learning practical coping skills, setting boundaries, improving communication, practicing more balanced self-talk, and working through situations that trigger strong emotional reactions.
Psychodynamic
I use psychodynamic therapy to help clients explore how past experiences, relationships, and patterns may influence the way they think, feel, and relate to others today. I’m interested in helping clients develop a deeper understanding of themselves by exploring underlying emotions, relationship patterns, attachment styles, and beliefs that may not always be immediately obvious. I create a supportive space where clients can reflect on their experiences and make connections between their past and present. Through this process, clients can develop greater self-awareness, understand recurring patterns, and gain insight into what may be contributing to their current concerns. I often integrate psychodynamic concepts with other approaches, tailoring therapy to each client’s needs and goals.
